The author is a synthesis of Benedict XVI’s teaching of marital love and his care for its proper development. The Pope has stressed many times that love is the greatest gift from God. Unfortunately, today the world rejects the biblical image of love. Marital love is threatened by secularism promoting relativism, divorces, homosexual relationships, contraception, abortion, pornography and prostitution. Today’s liberal understanding of love is reduced to the sphere of eros and is deprived of its spiritual dimension. The Pope calls marital love the way of holiness that leads to a full and integral human and Christian development. It is the way of mutual care, the way of the sacraments and prayer and the way of work understood as a profession and involvement in domestic af airs .

In Origen's Commentaries on the Song of Songs, Holiness of the Church seems to be above all (if not exclusively) holiness of the 'ecclesiastical souls' purged by their proximity to Christ. Although Origen presents the Church as 'black and comely' bride he does not mean that she would be both holy and sinful, as it is the case in the works of some other Christian interpreters.

The basic topic of deliberation is the Serbian tradition of holiness and its functioning in the cultural system. In the seventeenth century, the cults of saints were a clear manifestation of the cultural distinctiveness and identity, as well as a key factor that integrates the Serbian community. The body, however, as a constructive ecclesiastical sign projects itself in a symbolic double-layer — the object of the cult and the subject of memory awareness. In the seventeenth century, in Serbian cultural space, the flesh in this fundamental role virtually becomes a real tool to recover memory and to reconstruct the past, but first and foremost to update the present fundamental complex of meaning in the Turkish occupation.
