On 18–19 April 2024, an international scientific conference entitled “Elements and Dynamics of the European Legal Standard” was held in Gdańsk, Poland. The event was the main activity undertaken within the Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski Department at the University of Gdańsk, which in the academic year 2023/2024 was headed by Professor Hanna Suchocka – a long-time member and honorary chairwoman of the Venice Commission. The purpose of the event was an in-depth reflection on the issue of European legal standards – an attempt to define and systematise them, as well as to identify their axiological assumptions. The conference provided an opportunity to analyse the nature and relevance of European legal standards for both the Council of Europe and its individual member states, including the Republic of Poland. The event was attended by many representatives of the broadly understood world of science and politics – both from Poland and abroad, including members of the Venice Commission, the Minister of Justice of Poland, the Mayor of the City of Gdańsk, as well as representatives of legal science from domestic and foreign research centers.
