We date the commencement of trade union activity in the student community in Białystok to the end of September 1980. In October, Founding Committees were established at the three largest universities in the region. Their activity was monitored by the Security Service. After the imposition of martial law and the banning of the Independent Students’ Association (NZS), the repression apparatus intensified its activities aimed at students operating in the opposition. There were the first arrests, the cause of which was the distribution of illegal publications. In April 1982, the Security Service carried out a wide-ranging search and arrest campaign in the academic community. Therefore, on 3 November 1982, a high-profile trial of 21 students began, which became the most frequently covered political case in Białystok during martial law.

Rozpoczęcie działalności związkowej w środowisku studenckim w Białymstoku datuje się na koniec września 1980 r. W październiku powstały komitety założycielskie na trzech największych uczelniach wyższych w regionie. Ich aktywność znalazła się pod obserwacją Służby Bezpieczeństwa. Po wprowadzeniu stanu wojennego i delegalizacji NZS aparat represji zintensyfikował przedsięwzięcia wymierzone w studentów angażujących się w poczynania opozycyjne. Doszło do pierwszych aresztowań, których przyczyną był kolportaż nielegalnych wydawnictw. W kwietniu 1982 r. SB przeprowadziła szeroką akcję przeszukań i aresztowań w środowisku akademickim. W związku z tym 3 listopada 1982 r. ruszył głośny proces 21 studentów, który stał się największą sprawą polityczną w stanie wojennym w Białymstoku.

The author analyses 9 issues of the bulletin published during 24 days of the students’ strike in 1981. He presents the causes of the strike, its action, the involvement of the students in Siedlce and the situation at other universities across the country. The text also reveals manners and forms concerning provision of information during the strike, the position of Strike Committees, state authorities, Independent Students’ Association, the Conference of Rectors, Socialist Union of the Polish Students, Independent Self-govering Trade Union Solidarity, the Senate of the institution and other organizations

The text presents the history of the underground publishing house Wydawnictwo Dobra Powszedniego, created during martial law at Ryjewo in the north of Poland on the initiative of the University of Gdańsk students. Based on archival research and oral accounts, this article presents the origins of the underground publishing house, identifies the places and ways of printing (as well as some of the publications) and describes the distribution system. The text also focuses on the local specificities of this publishing initiative and on related organisational problems.

W tekście zaprezentowano historię podziemnego Wydawnictwa Dobra Powszedniego, które powstało w czasie stanu wojennego w Ryjewie z inicjatywy studentów Uniwersytetu Gdańskiego. Dzięki badaniom archiwalnym i relacjom ustnym udało się ustalić genezę powstania podziemnej oficyny wydawniczej, miejsca i sposoby druku, część tytułów wydrukowanych przez Wydawnictwo Dobra Powszedniego oraz scharakteryzować system dystrybucji. Skupiono się również na lokalnej specyfice inicjatywy i związanych z tym problemów organizacyjnych.
