Thesis/Objective – The author intends to identify the current meaning of the book in Polish and English texts of codificational nature. Research methods – The collected corpus of definitions served the author to find the key elements of the definitions and their frequency. Results/Conclusions – The documents researched show books mostly as physical entities, less often books are understood as the medium of community and information space. The author applies the linguistic theory of the semantic field which holds that each word appears in the context of other words in certain specified categories of meaning.

Teza/cel artykułu – Ustalenie aktualnego znaczenia książki w tekstach polsko- i angielskojęzycznych o charakterze kodyfikacyjnym. Metody badań – Zebranie korpusu definicji, wybranie kluczowych elementów deskrypcji i wskazanie natężenia występowania poszczególnych cech (znaczeń). Wyniki/wnioski – W zbadanym materiale przeważa rozumienie książki jako tworu fizykalnego, w dużo mniejszym stopniu rozumiana jest jako medium przestrzeni społecznej i informacyjnej. Wykorzystanie dla badań terminologicznych z zakresu informatologii, językoznawczej teorii pola semantycznego, zakładającej, że każde słowo współwystępuje z innymi w pewnych wyodrębnionych kategoriach znaczeniowych.
