The article describes the state of discussion about archiving the Internet in Poland, on the background of terminological deliberations on understanding the term “Internet archiving”. The article discusses key aspects of archiving websites from the point of view of state archives, as well as proposals of completing this task formed by librarians and archivists.

Artykuł podejmuje tematykę archiwizacji Internetu oraz wartościowania witryn internetowych. Rozpoczyna się od zdefiniowania i ustalenia struktury witryny internetowej, w skład której wchodzą strony internetowe i dokumenty HTML. W dalszej części artykułu autor podjął próbę stworzenia podziału witryn internetowych ze względu na ich charakter. Następnie przy wykorzystaniu metod archiwistyki przeprowadził rozważania nad wartością źródłową witryn internetowych. Ostatnią część artykułu stanowi studium przypadku, w którym analizie poddana została witryna internetowa I Liceum Ogólnokształcącego im. Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu.

The article touches the subject of archiving the Web and evaluating websites. It starts with defining and presenting a structure of a website, comprising of web pages and HTML documents. Further the author attempts to divide websites according to their character. Then, using methods of archival science, the author considered source value of websites. The last part of the article is a case study analysis of the website of the Nicolaus Copernicus High School No. 1 in Toruń.

W artykule przedstawiono problemy z przechowywaniem danych cyfrowych w bibliotekach, które są nie tylko nabywcami danych, ale i ich wytwórcami. Przybliżono wybrane światowe i polskie projekty bezpiecznej i długoterminowej archiwizacji. Zwrócono uwagę na konieczność wypracowania ogólnopolskiej strategii i procedur właściwego przechowywania i zarządzania cyfrowymi zasobami, aby zapewnić im długoterminową użyteczność oraz znacząco obniżyć koszty wieczystej archiwizacji.

The paper presents problems with the storage of digital data in libraries, which are not only the data buyers nowadays, but data manufacturers as well. Selected Polish and international projects on secure long-term archiving are discussed. The authors emphasize the need of developing national strategies and procedures for the appropriate storage environment and digital asset management to ensure the long-term accessibility and usability for the spiraling amounts of digital data and to significantly reduce long-term archiving costs.
