Sojusz Stanów Zjednoczonych i Arabii Saudyjskiej trwa od zakończenia II wojny światowej. Przez ten czas w dwustronnych relacjach występowały napięcia, lecz nie zagrażały trwałości aliansu. W minionych latach stosunki obu państw były oparte o bezpieczeństwo i interesy ekonomiczne. Największa zapaść w relacjach między Waszyngtonem a Rijadem przypadła na okres urzędowania Baracka Obamy na stanowisku prezydenta Stanów Zjednoczonych. Oba państwa poróżniły się w kwestii Arabskiej Wiosny, punktem spornym było również wynegocjowane porozumienie nuklearne z Iranem, dzięki któremu zniesione zostały sankcje ekonomiczne, nałożone przed laty na Teheran przez państwa zachodnie. Objęcie urzędu prezydenta Stanów Zjednoczonych przez Donalda Trumpa pozwala na nowe otwarcie w polityce amerykańsko-saudyjskiej. Choć główne cele regionalne obu państw różnią się, to ich współpraca niesie korzyści dla każdej ze stron.

The alliance of the United States and Saudi Arabia has been in existence since the end of World War II. During this time, there were tensions between this countries, but they did not jeopardize the durability of the alliance. In the past years, relations between USA and Saudi Arabia were based on security and economic interests. The worst relations between Washington and Riyadh had place during Barack Obama's presidency. Both countries had different view on the issue of the Arab Spring, also Saudi Arabia was not was not satisfied about nuclear deal with Iran which has lifted the economic sanctions that the West imposed on Tehran. Taking the office of the United States President by Donald Trump allows for a new opening in US-Saudi politics. Although the two countries' main regional objectives are different, cooperation between them benefits each other
