The didactic-scientific centre Seminarium Cracoviense Societatis Jesu had been established in Cracow in 1867 and in 1932 obtained the status of academic college as Philosophical Department of Jesus Society. In 1999, a new structure and name were introduced: Philosophical-Pedagogical Academy "Ignatianum" in Cracow. In 2011 it was transformed into Ignatianum Academy. Ignatianum currently runs five colleges: philosophy and culture studies (Philosophical Department), pedagogy, political studies and social work (Pedagogical Department). Moreover, it manages 10 different post-graduate studies, the University for Seniors and the Academy for Children. It is entitled to award doctorate degrees in philosophy, pedagogy and culture studies. Publishing house of the Academy has been active since 1973. Despite books, it publishes 6 scientific magazines: „Rocznik Wydziału Filozoficznego" („Philosophical Department Yearly", „Rocznik Wydziału Pedagogicznego" („Pedagogical Department Yearly"), half-yearly of the „Forum Philosophicum", „Perspektywy Kultury" („Cultural Perspectives"), half-yearly „Horyzonty Wychowania" („Horizons of Education"), and „Horyzonty Polityki" („Horizons of Politics"). Specialised Scientific Library of Jesuits supports Academy in its scientific and didactic activity. It numbers over 400 thousand volumes, covering over 30 thousand old prints and more than 500 magazines (170 foreign), and has a modern reading room. Catalogs of the Library are computerised and are accessible on the Internet. In 2011/2012, in Ignatianum there have been 270 research and didactic workers and the total number of students is 3730.
