W artykule zostało przedstawione zagadnienie starego człowieka i czasu starości w ujęciu znanego polskiego socjologa, Jana Szczepańskiego (1913 – 2004). Problematyka ta jest osadzona w szerszej całości - koncepcji filozofii spraw ludzkich, w której pierwszoplanową rolę odgrywa idea indywidualności. Zarysowane stanowisko jest głęboko humanistyczną refleksją nad sensem życia, tożsamością człowieka, procesami (auto)biograficznymi oraz poznaniem ludzkiego świata.

In this article the concept of senior citizens and the idea of old age is presented from Jan Szczepanski’s perspective (Polish sociologist, 1913-2004). The subject matter is analyzed from a holistic point of view and embedded in the philosophical concept of human affairs - where the leading role is played by individuality. This point of view is a profound reflection on the meaning of life, human identity, autobiographical processes and of the understanding of the human world.
