The starting point of this highly personal essay is a reminder of the revolutionary nature of Freud’s theory of sexuality. The author refers to feminist criticism that accuses Freud of heteronormative limitations, which they want to go beyond without abandoning the post-psychoanalytic tradition as such. They point out that Jean Laplanche’s theory can help in thinking about sexuality as a force that eludes identity patterns. Then, referring to various concepts from the psychoanalytic tradition and queer theory, the author looks at a case of identity and orientation fluidity drawn from their own practice. This thread is interwoven with reflections on Magnus Hirschfeld and Tomasz Machciński, with the essay culminating in an embrace of the unclassifiable.

Punktem wyjścia tego utrzymanego w osobistym tonie eseju jest przypomnienie rewolucyjnego charakteru Freudowskiej teorii seksualności. Autorka przywołuje feministyczną krytykę wytykającą Freudowi heteronormatywne ograniczenia, poza które pragnie wykroczyć, nie porzucając jednak tradycji psychoanalitycznej. Wskazuje, że w myśleniu o seksualności jako o sile wymykającej się tożsamościowym schematom dopomóc może teoria Jeana Laplanche’a. Następnie, odwołując się do rozmaitych koncepcji z tradycji psychoanalitycznej i teorii queer, autorka przygląda się zaczerpniętemu z własnej praktyki przypadkowi tożsamościowej i orientacyjnej płynności. Ten wątek splata z rozważaniami nad postaciami Magnusa Hirschfelda i Tomasza Machcińskiego, formułując na koniec apologię tego, co niemożliwe do sklasyfikowania.

The article constitutes a re-reading of classical American novel Moby Dick in terms of its implicit anthropological and psychoanalytical reactions toward the Other. The uncanny as a radical otherness is represented in the novel either by a disintegration of the subject or a risky, dangerous promise of transforming the social world. The relation toward the otherness – external and internal – is elaborated by psychoanalytical theory (Laplanche, Green, Derrida).

Celem artykułu jest ponowne przyjrzenie się powieści z kanonu literatury amerykańskiej – Moby Dick – z punktu widzenia zawartych w niej koncepcji reakcji na inność. Niesamowite rozumiane jako radykalna obcość jest w powieści reprezentowana albo przez katastrofę doprowadzającą do rozpadu podmiotowości, albo przez niebezpieczną, ryzykowną obietnicę przekształcenia świata społecznego w lepszy i sprawiedliwszy. Stosunek do inności – zewnętrznej i wewnętrznej – zostaje w artykule ujęty przy pomocy myśli psychoanalitycznej (Laplanche, Green, Derrida).
