This text takes as its subject an analysis of the objectives behind the ex-Jesuit church of Wrocław University, with specific reference to the theme of glorifying God’s name. The verse contained in Psalm 113(from the rising of the sun to its setting, may Lord’s name be praised) –written in its entirety in the cartouche affixed to the keystone of the roodscreen arch, and included in the title to the main, Polish article provided the key idea behind the programme.

Wacław Oszajca is a Polish Jesuit, journalist, poet and publicist. His work is mainly focused around Christianity related matters. A Jesuit uses the category of the sacred as a synonym for what is saint. It defines the sacred as a force that puts together the chaos of everyday life, it is the Absolute, thanks to which we can reach faith in the infinity of the world. Oszajca tries to provoke the reader into thinking about the presence of the sacred in his life and shows that the division into the sacred and the profane should be removed. His work is a proof of adoration of everyday life and faith in a merciful but righteous God. When writing, he often uses contrasts and paradoxes, but above all his poetry is full of humor and joy.

Sensualism belongs to the distinctive characteristics of Baroque literature. It appears in arelatively broad spectrum of genres and text strategies. The article deals with the genre of meditation in Czech literature, especially with the notable influence of the Jesuit spirituality (Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius of Loyola) on the Czech Baroque books in the 17th and 18th centuries (F. Kadlinský, Zlatá ctností kniha, 1662; V. Martinedes, Uzda duchovní, 1672; B.H. Bilovský, Druhé rozvažování postní, 1721). These works cultivated private spirituality and were intended for individual reading. The Jesuit conception is based on sensual effects, especially mental exercises of the visual imagination (the visual art as amodel for literature). For this Baroque texts used refined rhetorical and stylistic strategies (description, enumeration, parable).

The article deals with two positive visions of Piotr Skarga (as an important figure in the national history) created in literature: romantic and positivist ones, and their impact on journalism. The interest in his figure on the part of the Galician press took place on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the priest’s death and the organization of Skarga Congress in Kraków. The analyzed magazines, regardless of their political affinities, considered and assessed various aspects of Skarga’s activity: political, religious, social and literary-linguistic ones. The presentation of the characters often reflected the socio-political views of the press circles.
