The article focuses generally on the functioning of commentary or metacommentary within postmodern narrative texts. Two Czech authors from the second half of the 20th century have been chosen to illustrate the theory outlined in the introductory part of the article: Ludvík Vaculík and Jiří Kratochvil. From the point of view of interpretation the structure that is being opened by commentary inside some narratives is called posthermeneutic. The article argues that posthermeneutic situation can be found in the perverse situation of samizdat publishing in Czechoslovakia in the 1970s (as depicted by Vaculík’s Český snář) and in the role played by women in Kratochvil’s short story Příběh krále Kandaula. The article concludes that the postmodern might stand the reader in front of an ethical choice as far as the function of literature and art is concerned.

Na obecné úrovni se článek zabývá fungováním komentáře či metakomentáře v postmoderních prozaických textech. K doložení a rozpracování teoretických východisek využívá článek texty Jiřího Kratochvila a Ludvíka Vaculíka. Z pohledu hermeneutiky je struktura, která se odhaluje uvnitř literárních textů právě prostřednictvím komentáře, nazvána posthermeneutickou. Článek ukazuje, že tato posthermeneutická struktura je pevně spojena s perverzní situací ineditního publikování v Československu 70. let jak ji zachycuje Vaculíkův Český snář, stejně jako se situací ženského subjektu zobrazené v Kratochvilově povídce Příběh krále Kandaula. Článek dochází k závěru, že postmoderna staví čtenáře či recipienta před etickou volbu co se role literatury a obecně umění týče.

In this study, based on observations of our own pedagogical work, we consider different didactic approaches to the same literary text (the short story ‘From Prague to Brno’ by Jiří Kratochvil) in the teaching of Czech as a foreign language and in the teaching of literature, including analysis of literary texts. The starting point is a comparison of the learning objectives in both of these contexts, followed by a presentation of specific tasks and lines of inquiry vis-à-vis the text, their justification, and analysis of student reactions. In conclusion, we emphasize those aspects that should be considered in the teaching of literary and prose texts, not only by foreign language teachers but also (in our view) teachers of literature and literary interpretation.

This article is a critical analysis of the discourse of power represented in the postmodern narrative. In this perspective, the Czech writer’s book creates a special study of the ‘genealogy of power’ (in relation to the concept of Michel Foucault). It arises from the combination (by using of the social-fiction literary convention) that regards the story of two symbolic forms of violence, supporting ‘sacred’ process of ‘subjugation’ of the entity (the past regime and, as result of trauma, the present and the future regime). The first form is a result of disciplinary authority of the communist system (a reference to the history of the Czech history – the period of the radicalization of the regime in the 50s of the twentieth century). The second one exemplifies the postmodern capillary violence (a reference to the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center). In this analysis, the impact of the power dissipated in the human consciousness resembles chess game, used in the story of Kratochvil in order to express a dramatic situation in which the rate is the annexation of subjectivity.
