 Comments on the Dramaturgy of Documentaries The paper aims at analyzing the relationship between dramaturgy in documentary film and fiction film as a form of storytelling governed by similar rules. The author tries to answer questions about the methods used to shape the material in documentary films. She presents an analysis of two Polish documentaries: Siberian Lesson and Argentinean Lesson by Wojciech Staroń. The structures of both works are based on the theme of the journey. These films represent a type of drama resulting from real-life events, close Kracauer’s theory of “the found story” and Kieślowski’s “dramaturgy of reality”. They also implement the basic assumptions of the paradigm (of the mythic structures) described by Joseph Campbell and Christopher Vogler typical of fiction films.

The paper examines the phenomenon of melancholia, taking into account views on it by Emil Cioran, Joseph Campbell, Jerzy Kosiński, Georg Simmel and Maurice Merleau- Ponty. Regardless of its commonly known clinical variant—which is not the subject of the presented reflections—melancholia has no clear philosophical definition, because its status usually resembles a clinging plant affixed to and “fed” by more concise thought constructs. It is demonstrated that the self-disclosure imperative is an essential aspect of melancholia and that a typical and frequent symptom of melancholia is rejection of others and immersion in indifference, desperation, silent apathy and loneliness.

This paper aims to illustrate how the tradition of Basil I’s rise to power in the Vita Basilii includes elements typical of heroic myths, according to Joseph Campbell’s monomyth scheme. The study presented here will examine how the narrative contains features such as a call to adventure, a series of trials and a motive for return. Moreover, the study seeks to investigate how these universal elements of hero stories have been mythicised by literary devices such as the topoi, text composition, intertextual references or symbolic content coherent with the perception of the ideological role of the Byzantine rulers. Within this framework, the study will aim to explore the morphology of these narratives and reconsider some historical questions with the help of Mircea Eliade’s theory of myth. It will focus on the identity and legitimising functions of the story for Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus and assess its impact on the position of the Macedonian dynasty in the social order and the sphere of political activity.

In the first part, the article discusses selected aspects of the history of the first Polish translation of F. Kafka’s novel The Trial, and indicates that numerous and significant changes were introduced into it anonymously, starting from the first post-war issue in 1957. The author claims that in fact we are not dealing with one and the same translation, but a translation palimpsest. The second part of the article presents the interpretation of The Trial which states that while writing his novel Kafka considerably referred to the anthroposophical ideas included in the book How to Know Higher Worlds by Rudolf Steiner, then regarding that it analyzes The Trial as a variant of a folktale (a mythical story) about a hero based on the findings of Vladimir Propp (Morphology of the Folktale) and Joseph Campbell (The Hero with Thousand Faces).
