In 2022, 50 years have passed since the death of Antoni Kępiński, an outstanding psychiatrist from Krakow. Against representatives of his field, he distinguished himself by emphasizing the subjective treatment of the patient, maintaining partnership with him based on mutual trust and honesty and seeing the causes of mental illness primarily in disturbances in the hierarchy of values. His ideas were an important inspiration not only for the medical community, but also for the humanities. He was one of the first authors who recognizes the importance of Kępiński’s anthropological reflection was Józef Tischner. The aim of the article is therefore to show in what philosophical perspectives he placed the intellectual output of the Krakow psychiatrist, how he developed the threads present in it, and how he used them when developing his own philosophical concepts.

The aim of my article is to analyze the concepts and phenomena of diagnosis and recognition, often considered to be semantically identical. While in psychiatric practice such an identity does not necessarily have adverse effects, in the anthropological and cultural domains identification of diagnosis and recognition may cause stigmatization, or other undesirable consequences. The article attempts to justify this thesis.

It is suggested to link Antoni Kępiński to the vicinity of the so-called Anthropological Psychiatry. This hypothesis is supported by his criticism of psychiatric objectivity, his personally committed style of psychotherapy and his assumption that mental sanity and illness is based on a constitutive value-based condition according to the model of information metabolism. This paper examines the most important criteria of his psychiatric work and research in contrast to Humanistic Psychology. The provisional conclusion that Kępiński and Anthropological Psychiatry are in accordance cannot be fully justified. However, with a broader concept of anthropological psychiatry it is possible to integrate Kępiński's views.

In this article the author considers images of protagonists and the narrator in aspect ofpsychopathic type of epileptoides, described by Antony Kempinsky. This psychotype in article isbeyond especially psychiatric classification and becomes the cultural frame describing aggressive and despotic cultural system with repressions inside and expansion outside, what was socialist system of a period of cold war. Shukshin characters bear on themselves burden of this system: dreaming to become heroes of the country, they focus in themselves negative lines: despotism, hate, anger, rage, rejection. Conflicts between heroes in stories tell about fight of the person against the system which is not leaving freedoms and spirituality. Shukshin artist’s eye snatches out from crowd thin and thick, small and large, weak and strong for heroes and their enemies, butthis choice is predetermined by the single psychopathic situation which has been taken out fromsoul of the writer.
