During his life, Wojciech Kętrzyński was a renowned and valued historian, librarian and publicist. Many obituaries and commemorations appeared in magazines and academic journals after his death. The employees of the Lviv Ossolineum made sure to preserve the memory of their director also outside the town. In Lviv, Kętrzyński has had a street and one of the reading halls in Ossolineum named after him. His poems and memoir were published, along with some commemorations dedicated to his achievements. The memory of Kętrzyński has also lasted in southern parts of Eastern Prussia. Michał Kajka translated his poems into Polish, while Emilia Sukertowa-Biedrawina in Działdowo published articles about Kętrzyński in her calendars. After 1945, as Polish borders encompassed those parts of Eastern Prussia, Kętrzyński became a reclaimant, even a warrior of Polishness. In his honour, the town of Rastenburg was renamed to Kętrzyn. He has had streets and schools named after him. The research on Kętrzyński’s activities gained momentum with the establishment of the Wojciech Kętrzyński Centre for Scientific Research (Pol. Ośrodek Badań Naukowych, OBN) in Olsztyn. Thanks to the efforts of OBN, a Polish plaque appeared at Kętrzyński’s grave, which was found by Leonard Turkowski in 1969 at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv. In 2008, the tombstone was renovated as a result of the activity of Kętrzyn authorities. When the old preWar fragment of the tombstone was found in 2016, it was returned to its proper place, while the medallion with Kętrzyński’s image was gifted by Kętrzyn authorities to the Wrocław Ossolineum. The memory of Kętrzyński in Warmia and Masuria was preserved by publishing his poems and research articles O ludności polskiej w Prusiech niegdyś krzyżackich [Eng. On Polish people in the previously Teutonic Prussia]. Numerous academic conferences confirmed the current nature of Kętrzyński’s conclusions. The Marshall of the Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodeship established an all-Poland award in humanities named after Kętrzyński, contributing to the movement of commemorating the researcher in the region and in Poland. This paper summarises all such activities during the 100-years period since Wojciech Kętrzyński’s death.

The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments approved St. Martin of Tours to be the saint patron of the town of Kętrzyn (Poland, Diocese of Warmia). St. Martin’s cult spread in France and in Europe since the 6th century. St. Martin’s tomb became the destination for pilgrimages. He was the first saint from outside the group of martyrs. He is the saint patron of the dioceses of Mainz and Rottenburg-Stuttgard in Germany and Eisenstadt in Austria.In Poland his name has been known since the 12th century. He is one of the most popular saints. Over 200 churches has been erected under his name. He is portrayed as a priest wielding a sword and with a soldier’s cloak at his feet or as a knight on horseback cutting a cloak in two and handing one half to a beggar. He is the saint patron of tailors. He is also the nationalsaint patron of France, the Pontifical Swiss Guards, knights, soldiers, travelers, refugees, blacksmiths, beggars, shepherds, weavers, wine makers, tanners and hotel-keepers.

Kongregacja Kultu Bożego i Dyscypliny Sakramentów, 9 sierpnia 2017 r. zatwierdziła św. Marcina z Tours biskupa jako patrona miasta Kętrzyn (Archidiecezja Warmińska). Kult św. Marcina szerzył się we Francji, a w Europie od VI wieku. Grób Świętego stał się celem pielgrzymek. Marcin był pierwszym ze świętych spoza grona męczenników. Jest on patronem diecezji Moguncja i Rottenburg-Stuttgart w Niemczech, Eisenstadt w Austrii. W Polsce imię Marcin znane jest od XII wieku. Św. Marcin należy do najbardziej popularnych świętych. Wystawiono około 200 kościołów ku jego czci. Przedstawia się go jako kapłana z mieczem i płaszczem żołnierskim u nóg lub jako rycerza na koniu rozcinającego płaszcz żołnierski i podającego go żebrakowi. Marcin jest patronem sukienników. Jest tez świętym „narodowym” Francji, patronem Gwardii Szwajcarskiej, rycerzy, żołnierzy, podróżujących, uchodźców, kowali, żebraków, pasterzy, tkaczy, właścicieli winnic, garbarzy, hotelarzy

The paper discusses the issue of historical furnishing (mainly of 17th and 18th centuries) preserved in Lutheran churches that have not changed their confession identity. Descriptions of the most interesting elements of furnishing of churches in Pasym, Szczytno, Sorkwity, Kętrzyn, Dźwierzuty, Łęguty and Pasłęk as well as in Dąbrówno and Gierzwałd are preceded with an extensive introduction explaining the assumptions of Lutheran Church art, sketchily outlining the development of Lutheran art within the area of the present Masurian diocese, and explaining the historical reasons for the today’s dispersion of Lutheran heritage in the region.
