The paper discusses the dual nature of tabloidization, conceived not as a mere imitation of tabloids but as a process which consists in adjustment to the expectations of the reader, a process in which the crucial value is that of good reception and effectiveness (profitability) as its measurable effect. Thus, tabloidization does not only concern tabloids as such but is present in the transformations of the media as a whole, the transformations being an aspect of a larger process of the transformation of contemporary culture. Secondly, there are two dimensions of tabloidization: tabloidization of content (i.e. the selection of certain themes and topics only because they are interesting to the general public) and tabloidization of transfer (a change in the format of the newspapers and magazines, the increased importance of non-verbal coding, a higher frequency of occurrence of specific linguistic means). As an example, the paper analyzes a series of articles from a non-tabloid daily “Gazeta Wyborcza”, titled Brat Karol. Siostra Wanda, which appeared in June 2009 (as well as an introductory advertisement and an introductory article). Th e analysis reveals the process of tabloidization of transfer (more exactly of language), but also the tabloidization of content. The tabloidization of language is manifested through the use of linguistic means such that they result in an augmentation and increased directness of the reading, as well as in an easier reception of the text. Tabloidization is also manifested through an apparent flouting of conversational maxims and a loose treatment of the principle of cooperation, which leads to the creation of a communicative message containing a simplified and biased worldview. Being familiar and easily understandable, the worldview is attractive to the reader. In this way, reality is mythologized. The reader receives a text which does not only relate to the difficult relationship between Karol Wojtyła (as bishop and pope) and Wanda Półtawska. The text is also about a relationship between a man and a woman. The attractiveness of the publication does not result from it being yet another text about John Paul II, a national hero, but from the new roles assigned to the protagonists (Wanda’s role is that of a woman, Karol’s is that of a man). The acceptance of the roles leads to a direct and intense reception of the message, as well as to the emergence of author–reader kind of community. In effect, the text is an instance of the tabloidization of content, where the content is not provided in a straightforward manner but through tabloidization of transfer.

Following the book by father Adam Kubiś The Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Cracow in 1954-1981, the author presents the history of The Pontifical University of John Paul II in Cracow in 1954–1981. The author aims to recall John Paul II’s contribution to, and care for, the existence and shape of the university, which now can exist as The Pontifical University of John Paul II in Cracow. The paper shows that the road leading to it since the liquidation of the Faculty in 1954 was not at all easy. The author wishes the university – which continues great traditions of the Faculty of Theology from 1937 – would never ever again have to experience such hardship as it did in Poland’s undistant pasts.

This article offers analysis of a personalistic dimension of truth and dialogue in normative ethics of media communication by Karol Wojtyła who is better known as Pope John Paul II. Karol Wojtyła was also a philosopher who was involved in the reflections devoted to epistemological issues, although it was not his main field of study. However, the issue of truth was often present in his philosophical and theological considerations. In Wojtyła’s earlier, pre-pontifical works, the reflection dedicated to the truth was a part of his anthropological and ethical conception. The notion of truth had a deep personalistic nature in the philosophy of Karol Wojtyła. It was the truth about a human being understood as a person. In later times of his intellectual activity, after being appointed as the Pope, he outlined a social dimension of truth that was understood as a base of human and social relations. It also concerned the facet of mass media which is reflected on in this text. The article is written from the perspective of the normative approach. It is typical for the ethics; however, the content of the study should rather be classified as metaethics because it is in fact a metareflection. The text is divided into five parts. Besides Introduction and Conclusions, there are also paragraphs dedicated to the personalistic dimension of the ethics in the light of philosophy and papal teachings of Karol Wojtyła – John Paul II, to the importance of truth in media as well as to the need of including real dialogue in the mediasphere. In the conclusion the author states that in the light of Wojtyła’s ethics of mass media, a depreciation of the value of the truth and dialogue makes mass media audiences liable for the propaganda and so-called total truths which are a perverse form of objective truth.

The crisis is a phenomenon which a man can experience no matter what its reasons are, either personal or impersonal. Therefore, one of the ways or fundamental conditions to overcome the crisis is communication both intrapersonal on a level of inner integration and interpersonal which makes it possible to meet and have a dialogue. Communication is a skill that one has to learn. The article tries to search for personal determinants of communication as a basis for acquiring and developing communication skills in the crisis. It also aims at showing that a human person is an integrating subject of one’s own communication activities as well as a platform of integration of intersubjective media activities. That is why, it can be said that a person is homo communicus and homo communicans, and the other way round that homo communicus who becomes homo communicans is a person. On this foundation one can and at the same time must build and develop communication skills in the crisis.

This paper is answering the question, whether it is possible to determine Karol Wojtyła with name of the journalist, on the basis of his long-term cooperation around with „Universal Weekly” and with „Sign”? Karol Wojtyła’s journalist’s artistic work esulted in 230 articles (cooperation with „Tygodnik Powszechny” and „Znak”) which appeared in 1949–1978 years on pages of both writings. Out of them, only the part of works is representing determined journalistic kinds and he constitutes the direct research source material. Rema-ining articles let in the indirect way establish, on what – according to Karol Wojtyła – a formation of the Catholic journalist should be like. This scientific paper has proven that Wojtyła was a journalist since 1949 and that, as a result of being the „religious supervisor”. He cooperated with this catholic paper as a bishop, archbishop and cardinal. Wojtyła wanted it to be a newspaper for all catholics who could rediscover Church as well as themselves in it.
