In the article „The Relationship between the Authorities and the Catholic Church in Pila in 1956-1972” the author reveals the prevailing relations between the party-state authorities and the church hierarchy. Since the turn of October, which resulted with Wladyslaw Gomulka coming into power, the era of Stalinism came to an end. It led to easing the relations between the state and the Church which return of religion to schools became the symbol of. These changes also reached the town of Pila. Then moving away from liberal policy of the Church, which also echoed in Pila, has been shown. Religion was removed from schools, church property was taken away and absurd taxes and financial penalties were given for illegal, according to the authorities, processions and other public religious practices. Atheisation of society was introduced by organizing various types of courses and trainings related to the materialistic view of the world. This policy was pursued to the end of the rule of W. Gomulka and did not produce the intended results, as most residents of Pila, as well as members of the Polish United Workers' Party had participated in religious practices. The article ends with the events in 1972 when on the Western and Northern Territories a permanent church administration was established and deanery of Pila became part of the Diocese of Gorzow. This was related to the normalization of relations between the state and the Church, which resulted in the transfer of formal documents confirming ownership of properties of both Catholic parishes in Pila made by the Department for Religious Affairs of the Provincial Council in Poznan.
