Source-driven data model for geohistorical records' editing: a case study of the works of Karol Perthées

The aim of the paper is to propose a data model for editing historical records using the example of Karol Perthées' works from the late 18th century. These consist of cartographic sketches, elaborated on the basis of parochial questionnaires and the maps of palatinates of the Crown , which are at a scale of 1:225,000. The model links the advantages of direct source data representation with scalability and flexibility features, which provide analytical possibilities. The sketches are indexed using the INDXR application and the structure of the model reflects the structure of the source. The maps were analyzed in a GIS environment, but no georeferencing was performed. The data collected separately as symbols and annotations were treated independently and were linked via features. The model is illustrated by a preliminary study of materials covering the area of the Zemborzyce parish near Lublin.

This article evaluates the reliability of a part of the Geograficzno-statystyczne opisanie parafiów Królestwa Polskiego (Geographical-Statistical Description of the Parishes of the Kingdom of Poland, called Parish Sketches) on the example of the settlement network of the then Gostynin County (Greater Poland Province). The area under examination was made up of three deaneries with 23 parishes. Settlement network data were collected from the selected verification maps, and then a common database with all the acquired information was developed. The analysed Parish Sketches were compared with the special map of the Poznań Province and other cartographic materials in terms of their content. The resulting quantitative and qualitative analyses made it possible to assess the correctness of the Parish Sketches as a source document for developing a special map.

W artykule dokonano oceny wiarygodności części Geograficzno-statystycznego opisania parafiów Królestwa Polskiego (zwanego szkicami parafialnymi) na przykładzie sieci osadniczej współczesnego powiatu gostyńskiego (woj. wielkopolskie). Badany obszar obejmował historycznie trzy dekanaty, w skład których wchodziły 23 parafie. Z wybranych map weryfikacyjnych zebrano dane o sieci osadniczej, a następnie opracowano wspólną bazę danych, w której zintegrowano pozyskane informacje. Zbadane szkice parafialne porównano z mapą specjalną województwa poznańskiego oraz innymi materiałami kartograficznymi pod kątem zawartości. Otrzymane w efekcie analizy ilościowe i jakościowe pozwoliły ocenić poprawność szkiców parafialnych jako źródła w procesie opracowania mapy specjalnej.
