The parish in Klimontów (Diocese of Sandomierz) has an archive, which stores various documents concerning the history of this institution. The materials from this archive were rarely used by historians. Only the ones who dealt with regional history were interested in the above mentioned materials. A parish priest from Klimontów Wawrzyniec Kukliński (1828-1912) published the content of the most important documents in the years 1909-1911. This content was the basis for writing an amateur treatise on the history of the town, where in 1626 the parish was erected. From the beginning of the twentieth century, the documentation stored at the parish church was damaged, some materials were lost. The author therefore undertook the effort to professionally organize the archival materials that are stored in the parish of Klimontów. Two fonds: Documents of the Roman Catholic Parish in Klimontów (documents since 1626) and Parish registers of Klimontów (since 1667) are connected with the parish offi ce. These two fonds were divided into individual archival units, mainly based on chronological criteria. Apart from the materials closely related to the activities of the parish, the archive includes an incomplete collection of the documents which belonged to the monastery of the Dominicans in Klimontów. That collection was brought to the parish archive in unclear circumstances, possibly just after the dissolution of the monastery in 1901. It is a closed fond, which includes diverse documents from the years 1418-1863. It should be noted that this fold also contains a signifi cant number of documents relating to the salaries of the parish in Olbierzowice, the patronage of which was granted to the monastery of the Dominicans under Jan Zbigniew Ossoliński’s foundation privilege of 1613.The parish archive also includes the books which are the remnants of the once prosperous parish library.

The text describes the story of secularization of the library in the Dominican monastery in Klimontów (recognized as a permanent monastery during 1864 secularization) in the Sandomierz region after the death of the last friar in 1901 and the takeover of the most valuable books by Petersburg Public Library. The text contains copies of the documentation (in Russian) illustrating the legal details of the process, including the titles of the book and the shipment of the most valuable items to Petersburg. It also presents the institutions partaking in the process: Russian (including Foreign Affairs Ministry) and Polish, like Sandomierz Bishop’s Consistory and the mayor of Klimontów, who shipped the books via mail to Petersburg. According to the appended documents, two books were sent to Petersburg; the shipment of others was stopped by the revolution of 1905 in Russia and the Kingdom of Poland. Probably the rest of the Dominican books from the Klimontów collection were transferred to the Sandomierz Seminary.

Tekst opisuje historię likwidacji biblioteki klasztoru Dominikanów w Klimontowie (w czasie kasaty 1864 r. uznany za tzw. etatowy) w ziemi sandomierskiej po śmierci ostatniego zakonnika w 1901 r. oraz przebieg przejęcia w 1904 r. przez Publiczną Bibliotekę w Petersburgu najcenniejszych ksiąg. Zawiera także przedruki dokumentów sprawy (w jęz. rosyjskim), ilustrujące szczegóły urzędowej procedury, poczynając od spisu tytułów zbioru książek po wysyłkę do Petersburga najcenniejszych pozycji, oraz prezentuje instytucje biorące w tym udział: zarówno ze strony rosyjskiej (łącznie z MSW), jak i polskiej: m.in. Konsystorz Biskupi w Sandomierzu oraz wójt Klimontowa, który drogą pocztową realizował wysyłkę do Petersburga. Według przytoczonej dokumentacji, do Petersburga wysłano dwie książki; wysyłkę pozostałych książek zatrzymały wydarzenia rewolucyjne 1905 r. mające miejsce w Rosji i w Królestwie Polskim. Prawdopodobnie pozostałe książki dominikańskiego zbioru w Klimontowie zostały później przekazane do biblioteki Seminarium Duchownego w Sandomierzu.

Based on the previously unknown inventory of marbles found in the sculpture workshop of Sebastian Sala and additional sources the knowledge of his biography and artistic activity has been complemented. The location of Sala’s workshop in the north-western Zwinger by Cracow’s Sławkowska Gate has been ascertained, and the profile of his output has been discussed. The artist has been attributed a pair of black-marble portals from the Collegiate Church of St Joseph in Klimontów and the early-Baroque portal from the Cathedral Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Sandomierz. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that not long before his death Sebastian Sala was executing a commission for Primate Marcin Łubieński, most likely working on his tomb for the Gniezno Cathedral. Also, it has been confirmed that the artist received a commission from Crown Marshal Stefan Koryciński, which can be associated with Koryciński’s plan, finally unaccomplished, to provide sculptural décor to the chapel by the Church of St Stephen in Cracow.

Na podstawie nieznanego dotąd inwentarza marmurów znajdujących się w warsztacie rzeźbiarskim Sebastiana Sali oraz dodatkowych źródeł uzupełniono wiedzę na temat jego biografii i działalności artystycznej. Wskazano lokalizację mieszczącej się w północno-zachodnim międzymurzu przy bramie Sławkowskiej w Krakowie pracowni mistrza oraz omówiono profil jej działalności. Artyście przypisano zespół czarno-marmurowych portali z kościoła kolegiackiego pw. św. Józefa w Klimontowie oraz wczesnobarokowy portal z kościoła katedralnego pw. Narodzenia Najświętszej Marii Panny w Sandomierzu. Ponadto wskazano, że niedługo przed śmiercią Sebastiana Sala realizował zamówienie dla prymasa Marcina Łubieńskiego, najprawdopodobniej na wykonanie jego nagrobka do katedry w Gnieźnie. Potwierdzono także przyjęcie przez artystę zlecenia od marszałka koronnego Stefana Korycińskiego, które można wiązać z ostatecznie niezrealizowanym projektem dekoracji rzeźbiarskiej kaplicy przy kościele pw. św. Szczepana w Krakowie.
