This article discusses ways of constructing the 19th century Polish journal obituary through a selection of obituaries of Kornel Ujejski from the years 1897-1898. One of the most important aspects of this analysis is the relationship between the conventional and the particular in the sections of these obituaries which consider the reception of Ujejski’s works. The author also considers the problem of the connections between the socially determined poetics of the obituary, the history of literature and literary criticism, which acquires particular importance in the context of obituaries of writers and also in the spe-cific form of 19th century obituary known as “literary obituary”. This paper shows how the obituary is a particularly useful genre in the research of literary reception.

Kazimierz Maciąg presents an extensive review of the book by Kinga Fink Muzyka w życiu i twórczości Kornel Ujejskiego [„Music in the life and workof Kornel Ujejski”], Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, Rzeszów 2018). Kornel Ujejski (1823–1897), known as the “last great poet of Romanticism”, is a poet who is somewhat forgotten. The analyzed monograph consists of three parts, in which the author presents: the analysis of the musical background on which the poet created, Ujejski’s poetry inspired by music and the history of poems for which music was created. The greatest value of the dissertation is not only to show only the sources and effects of musical inspirations, but also to see in the work of Kornel Ujejski motifs and themes that were and are important for the creators and readers of subsequent eras.

Autor przedstawia obszerną recenzję książki Kingi Fink Muzyka w życiu i twórczości Kornel Ujejskiego, Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, Rzeszów 2018). Kornel Ujejski (1823-1897), zwany „ostatnim wielkim poetą romantyzmu”, jest twórcą nieco zapomnianym. Analizowana monografia składa się ztrzech części, w nich autorka zawarła: analizę tła muzycznego, na którym poeta tworzył, poezję Ujejskiego inspirowaną muzyką oraz historię wierszy, dla których powstawała muzyka. Największą wartością rozprawy jest nie tylko ukazanie źródeł i skutków muzycznych inspiracji, ale także dostrzeżenie w twórczości Kornela Ujejskiego motywów i tematów ważnych dla twórców i czytelników kolejnych epok.

Głównymi bohaterkami niniejszego artykułu są dwie słynne, acz nieco zapomniane lwowianki doby XIX stulecia, a dokładniej relacja, jaka je łączyła, dojrzewająca z biegiem lat, nabierająca znamion prawdziwej, niemal siostrzanej przyjaźni. Fragmentarycznie zachowana korespondencja Leonii Wild do Zofii Romanowiczówny ukazuje także ich dokonania podczas powstania styczniowego czy działalności dobroczynnej, przynosi również opis charakterystyki obu kobiet oraz bolączek dnia codziennego, trudów, jakim poddawana była zwłaszcza rodzina lwowskich księgarzy. Omawiane listy to również świadectwo „ostatniej, wielkiej, romantycznej miłości”, będącej głównym tematem mieszkańców Lwowa doby lat 60. i 70. wieku pary i elektryczności. Uczucie to, prócz podsycania plotek, było także natchnieniem, źródłem weny dla Jeremiego, Kornela Ujejskiego, bohatera romansu.

The main characters of this article are the two famous, but somewhat forgotten Lvivians of the 19th century, and, more precisely, the relationship that united them, maturing over the years, acquiring the features of true, almost sisterly friendship. The fragmentary preserved correspondence of Leonia Wild to Zofia Romanowiczówna also shows their achievements during the January Uprising or philanthropic activity, it is also a characteristic of both women and the troubles of everyday life, the hardships faced by the family of Lviv booksellers. The discussed letters are also a testimony of “the last, great, romantic love”, which was the main topic of the inhabitants of Lviv in the 60s and 70s of the age of steam and electricity. This feeling, as well as fuelling rumours, was also an inspiration, a source of inspiration for Jeremi, Kornel Ujejski, a hero of romance.
