Niniejszy artykuł opiera się na tezie, że tekst w dziełach o inicjacyjnym charakterze (takim jak Schulzowska Księga) pomyślany jest jako miejsce ze świętą, ezoteryczną tajemnicą. Zgodnie z francuską teorią powieści dokonujemy na przykładzie opowiadań Schulza analizy terminu „mise en abyme“ czyli książki jako specyficznej przestrzeni, stworzonej w obrębie tekstu literackiego. Rozróżniamy dwa ich rodzaje, tekst autorefleksyjny, który tematyzuje sam siebie (topos tekstu-miasta lub księgi-labiryntu), oraz narracja w kręgu, w którym tekst obraca wokół własnej osi (cykliczna struktura „Sanatorium pod Klepsydrą”). Na koniec odnosimy się również do idei Schulzowskiej Księgi jako Talmudu.

This article is based on a thesis maintaining that the text in such initiation works as Schulz’s Księga is conceived as a place containing a holy esoteric secret. In accordance with the French theory of the novel the author of this article conducts upon the example of Schulz’s stories an analysis of the term: mise en abyme, i.e. a book perceived as specific space created within the range of the literary text. Two varieties are distinguished: the self-reflective text, which is its own theme (the topos of the text-town or the book-labyrinth), and narration, within whose range the text revolves around its axis (the cyclical structure of Sanatorium pod Klepsydrą). Finally, Hana Nela Palková refers also to the idea of the Schulzian Księga / Book as the Talmud.
Adam Mickiewicz’s Pan Tadeusz (in English: Sir Thaddeus, or the Last Lithuanian Foray), the national epic poem, was first published in June 1834. It was perceived as a very important book, the last great epic poem in European literature. Pan Tadeusz is undoubtedly a great literary masterpiece. In my opinion, the poem is not a book just like any other book.What could it mean? We might suppose it is a special kind of book − in fact, the Book. Traditionally, this term is associated with sacred books such as Bible, Koran or Talmud. Contemporary secular version (mentioned by Oswald Spengler, Stéphane Mallarmé, Jorge Luis Borges) shows the Book as the world, the whole or the infinity. Therefore, it is worth asking why Mickiewicz lapsed into silence. Is it possible that he wrote the Book and did not want to write books any more?
