W artykule zostały przedstawione główne motywy filozofii społecznej Thomasa Hobbesa, które były kontynuowane w późniejszych stanowiskach filozofii dziejów. Są to następujące motywy: 1) pogląd mówiący o egoistycznej i konfliktowej ludzkiej naturze oraz społecznej i historycznej roli takich uczuć jak zazdrość, współzawodnictwo, ambicja i zawiść; 2) teoria „prostej” zależności między budową ludzkiej natury a przebiegiem życia historycznego; 3) pogląd mówiący o niesamodzielności motywacji moralnych; 4) teza mówiąca o instrumentalnym charakterze rozumu. W szczególności analizowane są koncepcje Kanta, Nietzschego, Gumplowicza, Witkiewicza, Spenglera oraz Fukuyamy.

In this paper the main ideas of the social philosophy of Thomas Hobbes are presented, and particularly the motives continued in the later theories of the philosophy of history. There are the following ideas: 1) theory of the egoistic human nature and social and historical importance of such feelings as jealousy, rivalry, ambition and envy; 2) theory of the “simple” relation between structure of the human nature and process of the historical life; 3) theory of the dependence of the moral motivations; 4) thesis about instrumental character of reason. Particularly, the positions of Kant, Nietzsche, Gumplowicz, Witkiewicz, Spengler and Fukuyama are analyzed.
