The authoress examines the work of Jacek Idzi Przybylski as the prefect of the Library of the Main Crown School (in the years 1785-1802 it was the name of the Jagiellonian University) in Cracow. She draws the attention to the issue of his nomination to this post and discusses his library work, his journey to the biggest European libraries, the establishment of newspaper and periodical reading room, his efforts to obtain mandatory copies for the library, appropriate remuneration for the librarian and his assistant as well as a budget for the library, and the compilation of the rules for library users. The authoress also describes how the library collections were expanded and how they were made available to the public. Using Przybylski's own drawing, she describes the appearance and the arrangement of bookcases in the library during his tenure as prefect. The paper also includes references to Polish and foreign guests visiting the library, and to Przybylski's sketch entitled 'Histoire de la Bibliotheque de l' Université de Cracovie faite en 1796'.
