The goal of the paper is research into applying one of the key genres of the 19th and 20th centuries, which found its way to Slovak literature after year 1945. The balladic structure principle as well as the balladic tone was not only employed in literature, but it can also be noticed in the research into the intermedial connections with the other forms of art. While researching the chosen subject, the author applied the methods and terminology of the grant project named VEGA Poetika slovenskej literatúry po roku 1945. The project uses terms such as figuration and reconfiguration when working with historical material, reconstruction and historical process records. Although the author seeks support in Alfonz Bednár´s works, particularly the novel Sklený vrch (The Glass Hill, 1954) and the literary screenplay of the film Tri dcéry (The Three Daughters, 1967), the hermeneutic interpretation of them is not the goal. After a brief outline of the evolution of assessing the relationships between the arts within the development of the current research into intermediality, the author considers the balladic principle to be a transmedial concept, which is – in the context of the research into modern Slovak art and culture. She drew inspiration from literary historian Štefan Krčméry and his essays on Slovak folk songs, especially ballads. The terms such as rhythm, translation and transfusion in relation with music and melody correspond with the current terms of intermediality, while regarding the chosen subject, rhythm is the key one. The author´s most important anticipation marker directed at a later reconfiguration is the position of the ballad and the balladic principle in the 1950s and 1960s in Slovakia is Bednár´s dissertation on European ballad, which was inspired by folklore expert professor Horák during his Prague studies. Bednár´s writing featured an apparent aspect of tragedy and fatefulness, which comes from the Ancient inspirations. The paper is a contribution to the research into the mechanisms and modes that were disintegrating the strict norms of Socialist Realism in the 1950s. Alongside the manifested genre forms of „happiness“ the latent Slovak dispositions of balladic elements such as tragic tone and sadness were gradually legitimized and in the context of contemporary literature and art they became a form of manifestation.

The article analyzes the building of the former County House in Levoča (1807-1826) by architect Anton Povolný. The Classicist style quality present in its facade - extraordinary regarding the date of origin, exceeding the surrounding context and bearing witness to the local orientation to Germany - conceals the traditional Late Baroque interior layout bearing witness to the official state power of the Austrian Monarchy. The preference of the Classicist style manifested a relative independence of city representatives from the centre.

Artykuł prezentuje interesującą, dziewiętnastowieczną formę demonstracji uczuć narodowych, jaką był polski pogrzeb na emigracji. Przyjmował często formę patriotycznej manifestacji i w sposób naturalny, niejako mimowolnie, okazał się ważnym elementem działalności Szkoły Polskiej na Batignolles. Uchwycenie roli ceremoniału pochówkowego w patriotycznej dydaktyce największej dziewiętnastowiecznej polskiej placówki edukacyjnej na Zachodzie, to ukazanie zupełnie nieznanej sfery emigracyjnego wychowania. Uczestnictwo polskich dzieci i młodzieży w pogrzebach, jak i związanych z nimi, wypracowywanych przez lata zwyczajach, wpisało się na stałe do szeroko rozumianego programu wychowawczo-dydaktycznego szkoły, świadczyło o odrębności obyczajowo-etnicznej polskiej diaspory wobec francuskiej kultury, uczyło historii i polskich tradycji, wzmacniało poczucie polskiej identyfikacji narodowej. Poprzez cykliczne odbywane żałoby, procesje i tym podobne manifestacje kształtowały się elementy tożsamości batignolskiej młodzieży typowe dla przedstawicieli polskiej diaspory. Ukazanie wagi i trwałości takiego patriotycznego, a zarazem „żałobnego” wychowania uzmysławia rolę pozalekcyjnej edukacji w konstruowaniu i przekazywaniu trwałej identyfikacji narodowej kolejnym pokoleniom wychowywanym na emigracji.

The article presents a novel, previously unused, form of the demonstration of national feelings, namely the Polish funeral in exile. Like a special form of a patriotic manifestation in a seemingly natural way, somehow involuntarily, it transpires to be an important element of the work of the Polish school at Batignolles. The presentation of the role of the burial ceremonies in the pedagogical practice of the largest Polish educational institution in the West, is a presentation of a completely unknown sphere of emigrant teaching. Both the funeral itself and the customs which were developed over the years, became a permanent part of the Batignol educational and didactic program. They have influenced the cultural and ethnic identity of the youngest diaspora, taught history and Polish customs, and strengthened the sense of national dignity. Through the periodic mourning, processions and similar manifestations, the typical young emigrant’s identity has been shaped. By showing the importance and durability of such a patriotic and sorrowful education, it is possible to present the role of the school and its extracurricular education in constructing and transferring the permanent national identification to subsequent generations brought up in exile.
