Regression trees approach is used in solving a segmentation problem. Given a population described by independent variables (both continuous and categorical), the continuous dependent variable Y and the two-level categorical variable. The goal is to create such segments of the population, described by the independent variables, that the difference in means distinguishes the segments. The approach differs from classical methods using measures of distance or dissimilarity between two observations from the set.
