The study aims to make a modest contribution to research into Muslim readings of the Qur'an in its changing social context. For this aim, the study explores the extent of the impact of different political and social concerns on the conceptual world of the Islam and shows the changes of theological attitude towards the issues in accordance with contemporary political values. In other words, the real purpose of the study is to show that the different political circumstances and conditions have affected the reception and the perception of the reader of the Qur'an. The main part of the research is devoted to a study on the reflections on religio-communal concepts of Islam, especially the ummah (community) in the past and present. This paper hopes to stay with the line of inquiry: 'What does the Qur'an mean today to the Muslims living under globalizing political values?' 'How can they usefully make a link between changing configurations of politics and the Qur'anic discourses?' 'How is the Qur'an explained by political concepts or in other words how is it politicized?'

Events over recent years have increased global interest in Islam. The article describes the way Muslims are perceived by nowadays Poles. The author examines how the image of the Muslim community and their culture is created and sustained in the mentality of the Polish society. This assertion is supported by usage of a combination of personal experience, evidence obtained from recent polls and other professionals' opinions. The article separates the present profile of the Muslim community created by unbiased political media and the one where Muslims used to be a vital part of Polish history . The author compares the Polish experience with the experience of other European countries, where perception of the Muslim community was shaped by a completely different background such as colonialism and extensive economic migration. The author concludes that even though Muslim culture is easily accesible to many Poles, Islamic issues are is still a terra incognita.

The purpose of this work is to present the process of the destruction of cultural property of the Muslim community during the warfare conducted on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in 1992–1995. The work is based on historical and press sources in Serbian, Bosnian and Croatian. Field research conducted in 2000 and 2022 to obtain information on the number of demolished and restored mosques in BiH also makes an important contribution. In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted with Slovak soldiers who served in NATO IFOR operations, as well as with representatives of international institutions. Research results indicate that during the war in BiH (1992–1995) the Muslim community suffered the greatest losses of cultural property. 614 mosques were destroyed. Serbian armed troops carried out most of the damage, while Croatian armed troops did less. After the war, no individual was held responsible for the destruction of cultural property. The case of BiH shows that international law still does not protect religious sites.
