Occupational Therapy forms an integral part of comprehensive rehabilitation, having as its main goal the achievement of maximum possible self-sufficiency and independence in people with different types of disability, at any age. Internationally, the training of occupational therapists is not unified. The degrees of education that can be achieved by therapists in the different countries of Europe and globally range from secondary education through higher vocational schools to higher education and Bachelor´s, Master´s or Doctoral degrees. Worldwide, the title of Professor of Occupational Therapy Sciences is not exceptional. Since 1992, occupational therapists in the Czech Republic have been able to receive a three-year Bachelor’s university education. Studies in the first ever two-year Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy were opened in the Czech Republic in 2014 at the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague. This programme provides therapists with a deeper theoretical and practical clinical knowledge, and is oriented towards science, research and management of health care. Emphasis is also placed on health and social legislation, professional terminology and interprofessional cooperation, as well as information and modern technology. The key teachers of this programme are primarily experts in the field of Occupational Therapy, with further input from doctors, physiotherapists and other medical specialists, biomedical engineers, lawyers, statisticians and managers. Gaynor Sadlo, an Emeritus Professor of Occupational Therapy at the University of Brighton, and a visiting professor of Occupational Therapy Sciences, plays an important role in teaching a specific focus on science and research regarding Occupational Therapy and equality in the workplace. In her teaching, she uses „Problem Based Learning (PBL)”. Collaboration with foreign universities and health facilities worldwide enables students of the programme to travel abroad during their Master´s studies through the Erasmus+ program to Finland (Kuopio), Italy (Ancona), Belgium (Ghent), Austria (Vienna) or Sweden (Stockholm). In 2017, two students of Occupational Therapy participated in a three month professional residency in Israel (Tel Aviv University, Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Sheba Hospital) for the first time in the history of Charles University.

Terapia Zajęciowa stanowi integralną część kompleksowej rehabilitacji, której głównym celem jest osiągnięcie jak najwyższej samowystarczalności i niezależności osób w różnym wieku i z różnymi rodzajami niepełnosprawności. Na arenie międzynarodowej szkolenie terapeutów zajęciowych nie jest ujednolicone1, a poziom wykształcenia, jaki mogą osiągnąć w różnych krajach Europy i na całym świecie, obejmuje wykształcenie średnie, wyższe zawodowe oraz studia wyższe licencjackie, magisterskie lub doktoranckie2. Na świecie tytuł Profesora Terapii Zajęciowej nie jest czymś wyjątkowym. Od roku 1992 terapeuci zajęciowi w Republice Czeskiej mogą kształcić się w trybie trzyletnich studiów licencjackich. Prowadzenie dwuletnich studiów magisterskich na tym kierunku, po raz pierwszy w dziejach Republiki Czeskiej, rozpoczęto w 2014 r. na Pierwszym Wydziale Lekarskim Uniwersytetu Karola w Pradze. Program ten zapewnia terapeutom pogłębioną, kliniczną wiedzę teoretyczną i praktyczną oraz ukierunkowany jest na badania naukowe i zarządzanie opieką zdrowotną. Kładzie on również nacisk na ustawodawstwo zdrowotne i społeczne, terminologię specjalistyczną, współpracę interdyscyplinarną, jak również informatyzację i nowoczesne technologie. Głównymi realizatorami tego programu są przede wszystkim eksperci w dziedzinie Terapii Zajęciowej, a także lekarze, fizjoterapeuci i inni specjaliści medyczni, inżynierowie biomedyczni, prawnicy, statystycy i menadżerowie. Ważną rolę w podkreślaniu znaczenia nauki i badań w zakresie Terapii Zajęciowej oraz równości w miejscu pracy odgrywa emerytowana Profesor Terapii Zajęciowej Uniwersytetu w Brighton i profesor wizytujący w dziedzinie Nauk Terapii Zajęciowej – Gaynor Sadlo, która stosuje podejście „nauczania opartego na rozwiązywaniu problemów” (ang. Problem Based Learning; PBL). Współpraca z zagranicznymi uniwersytetami i placówkami służby zdrowia na całym świecie umożliwia studentom wyjazd za granicę w trakcie studiów magisterskich w ramach programu Erasmus+ do Finlandii (Kuopio), Włoch (Ankona), Belgii (Gandawa), Austrii (Wiedeń) lub Szwecji (Sztokholm). Po raz pierwszy w historii Uniwersytetu Karola w 2017 r. dwóch studentów Terapii Zajęciowej wzięło udział w trzymiesięcznym stażu w Izraelu (Uniwersytet w Tel Awiwie, Wydział Medycyny Sackler, Szpital Sheba).
