The starting point is the analysis of the concept of culture and civilization. They lead to an outline of the civilizational crisis’s and social order’s theory, as an actual living environment of modern people. Parallel I develop important topic of the theory of subjectivity, with a special focus the concept of horizons of reference. This allows for reflection on the situation of the human subject in the difficult conditions of the civilizational crisis. Especially I move the topic decay horizons of reference in the modern world. I introduce the notion of concern, referring mainly to the of Margaret S. Archer’s and Martin Heidegger’s theory. Referring to them, I develop the concept of a specific type of concerns - resulting from deprivation needs of the sense and significance of contemporary person. Analysis of the con- cept of horror and fear leads to the question of despair, which in turn is a reference point to look at the problem of hope.
