The author has made an attempt to portray the concept of justice in the context of the ethos of social struggle. He tried to put the principles of justice Maria Ossowska and Zygmunt Ziembiński social reality assuming a process of socialization of the concept and the ethos of martial understood as a continuous social changes shaped by culture. The outline is based on three formulas developed by Ossowska justice and eleven conglomerates behavior that presented Ziembiński. The final conclusion is that the ethos of social justice as the value used may be reflected only in lawful activities.

Artykuł skupia się na analizie doświadczeń terenowych autorki, koncentrując uwagę na komplikacjach emocjonalnych i aksjologicznych wynikających z długotrwałej współpracy z badanymi, nawiązywaniem więzi osobistych i rodzącym się zaangażowaniem badacza w sprawy badanego społeczeństwa. Autorka sięga do antropologicznej refleksji podejmującej tematy etyczne oraz twórczości Marii Ossowskiej, znajdując w niej fundamentalne inspiracje.

The article concentrates on the analysis of the author’s field experience. It focuses on emotional and axiological dilemmas and complexities resulting from long-lasting cooperation with researched group. The effects of the process are on one side personal bonds between researcher and researchees (sometimes deep friendship and affection), and on the other side his/her engagement in studied society problems. The author uses not only literature about anthropological reflection on ethical issues in fieldwork, but also implies Maria Ossowska’s works, furnishing rich inspirations.

In the present text a comparison is made between two positions that are outstanding in Polish sociology of morality. The first one is represented by the work of Maria Ossowska, the pioneer of sociology of morality. It was she who paved the way for this subdiscipline, not only in Polish but also in world literature. She is considered an authority even today. The second position is connected with Janusz Mariański’s work. He belongs to the next generation of sociologists and he has devoted several dozen years of his research to moral issues; he doubtless may boast of his achievements that clearly make a mark in the perspective of what has been done both in Poland and abroad. In the comparison the following points are considered: the subject of research, the used methods, the relation between morality and religion, the language of his works, the inspirations for taking up the discipline.

W niniejszym tekście przeprowadzono porównanie dwóch stanowisk, jakie wybijają się w polskiej socjologii moralności. Pierwsze reprezentuje dorobek Marii Ossowskiej – pionierki socjologii moralności. Ona torowała drogę tej subdyscyplinie nie tylko w literaturze rodzimej, ale i światowej. Do dziś uznawana jest za autorytet. Drugie stanowisko związane jest z twórczością Janusza Mariańskiego – należącego do następnego pokolenia socjologów, który kilkadziesiąt lat swoich naukowych dociekań poświęcił zagadnieniom moralności i bez wątpienia poszczycić się może dorobkiem, który wyraźnie wybija się spośród innych zarówno z perspektywy tego, co dokonano w Polsce, jak i poza jej granicami. W porównaniu uwzględniono: przedmiot badań, stosowane metody, relację między moralnością a religią, język wypowiedzi, inspiracje zajmowania się dyscypliną.

In Poland, the development of the sociology of morality is related to Maria Ossowska’s scholarly activities. She studied social facts in the context of morality, describing and explaining all that, which in the opinion of people, belongs to realm of morality. Ossowska did not practice normative ethics, but the science of morality, postulating its assumptionlessness. Ethicists who stemmed from Catholic circles demanded that along with the science of morality scientific-normative ethics should also be cultivated. Polemics with Ossowska were fragmentary in character and appeared in the works of some ethicists and sociologists. Catholic ethicists primarily probed the problems of normative ethics. The paper presents the stance of the Catholic ethicists and sociologists of the 1980s and 90s, towards some of Maria Ossowska’s writings.

W Polsce rozwój socjologii moralności wiąże się z działalnością naukową Marii Ossowskiej. Pragnęła ona zachować postawę badacza faktów z dziedziny moralności, opisując i wyjaśniając to wszystko, co w przekonaniach ludzi należy do dziedziny moralności. Nie uprawiała etyki normatywnej, lecz naukę o moralności, postulując jej programową bezzałożeniowość. Etycy wywodzący się z kręgów katolickich domagali się, by obok nauki o moralności, często przez nich nazywanej etyką opisową (empiryczną), była uprawniona jako naukowa etyka normatywna. Polemiki z poglądami Ossowskiej miały charakter fragmentaryczny, pojawiały się w pracach niektórych etyków i socjologów. Etycy katoliccy zajmowali się przede wszystkim problemami etyki normatywnej. Niniejsze opracowanie prezentuje ustosunkowanie się etyków i socjologów z kręgów katolickich z lat 80. i późniejszych XX wieku do wybranych prac Marii Ossowskiej.

The author presented the concept of Maria Ossowska’s ethics of struggle. He also analyzed her views on morally acceptable ways of struggle. What is more, the author showed the evolution of chivalric ethos and analyzed its historical conditionings. In conclusion, he states that the moral character of the struggle depends on honorable behaviors of its participants.
