The article maps the period of the rise of the House of Mecklenburg from 1167 to 1348, when Mecklenburg was undergoing a long-term process of integrating into the imperial structures following the fall of the Obotritic tribal state. This process was officialy finalised by Charles IV, who ceremonially raised the two brothers Albrecht II. and John I. to imperial Dukes in July 1348. Albrecht was an ambitious ruler and the period of his rule marked the beginning of powerful foreign policy of the House of Mecklenburg. With the rise of the House of Mecklenburg, the need for codification and legitimization of the ancient royal tradition arose in order to support the ambitions of the Mecklenburgs. This article also mentions several aspects of the evolution of genealogic and heraldic tales about the family in the works of Ernst Kirchberg and Nicolaus Marschalk.

Trudnym wyzwaniem jest przygotowanie wystawy tak złożonego, interdyscyplinarnego tematu kulturoznawczego, jakim jest polowanie na czarownice/czarowników, jego historycznej rzeczywistości i związanych z nim kwestii ideologizacji i mitologizacji. Ucichły już wprawdzie kontrowersje wokół interpretacji polowania na czarownice/czarowników, które w latach siedemdziesiątych i osiemdziesiątych XX w. były przedmiotem ostrego sporu między inicjatywami kobiecymi a ówczesnymi badaczami problematyki, którymi wówczas byli prawie wyłącznie mężczyźni. Spór ten doprowadził do słusznego przesunięcia uwagi z obrazu ofiary, głównie kobiety, na szerszy kontekst społeczny, polityczny i prawny zagadnienia. Nadal pozostaje jednak wyzwaniem dla specjalistycznego muzeum kultury, w jaki sposób powiązać wystawę historyczną z aktualnymi problemami i zagadnieniami, bez popełniania błędu zaoferowania z jednej strony podręcznego podręcznika akademickiego, a z drugiej – zachłyśnięcia się strategiami marketingowymi.

It is a challenging task to translate a complex interdisciplinary cultural-scientific topic like the witch hunt, its historical reality like its ideologisation and fictionalisation into an exhibition. The dispute about the witch hunts, about the ambivalence of interpretations, which in the 1970s and 1980s was still the focus of a sharp dispute between women’s initiatives and mostly male experts at the time, has settled. This dispute resulted in a clear shift in attention from the image of the victim viewed as female to social, political and legal-historical contexts. But the challenge of a cultural history specialist museum today is to connect the exhibition of history to current problems and issues without making the mistake of offering a walk-in academic textbook on the one hand or being devoured by marketing strategies on the other.

Neolityczne grobowce w Europie Północno-Zachodniej występują w postaci pojedynczych nasypów i skupisk kurhanów. W pracy przedyskutowano ich podstawowe cechy z uwzględnieniem dostępu do głównej komory i jej lokalizacji wewnątrz nasypów. W zachodniej Meklemburgii zarejestrowano 238 grobowców megalitycznych, które sklasyfikowano pod względem liczby konstrukcji na stanowisku oraz porównano pod względem rozprzestrzenienia. Opisano przykłady oraz możliwe przyczyny pojawienia się cmentarzysk z wieloma konstrukcjami, rozważane na tle organizacji społecznej i relacji do elementów krajobrazu.

Neolithic funerary monuments across north-west Europe are considered as cemeteries and here divided into two types: single-mound cemeteries, and multi-mound cemeteries. Their general characteristics are discussed in relation to models of access to the internal chambers, and the distribution of chambers within their cover-mounds. The 238 megalithic tombs recorded in Western Mecklenburg are classified according to whether they are single-mound cemeteries or components of multi-mound cemeteries, and the distributions compared. Examples and case studies are described, and possible understandings of the emergence of multi-mound cemeteries are considered in relation to social organization and connections with the landscape.
