The aim of this article is an attempt to apply Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of capitals to historical and theatrical research using the example of dress and the strategy of wearing it as a self-creative process and a way of presenting selected social roles. The clothing strategy of the Polish-American actress Helena Modjeska is analyzed.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest próba aplikacji teorii kapitałów Pierre’a Bourdieu do badań historycznoteatralnych na przykładzie stroju i strategii jego noszenia jako procesu autokreatywnego i sposobu na prezentację wybranych ról społecznych. Analizie zostanie poddana strategia ubioru polsko-amerykańskiej aktorki Heleny Modrzejewskiej.
