Ponad trzy dziesięciolecia temu, w wyniku protestów społecznych, powstała Solidarność. Czas jej narodzin, zbudzonych nadziei, doświadczeń nocy grudniowej i podjętych działań w kolejnych latach, ciągle stawia przed historykami konieczność odkrywania nie znanych dotąd kart. Solidarność formalnie pozostawała związkiem, ale jej rola dziejowa i oddziaływanie na wszystkie sfery życia daleko wykraczało poza te ramy. Doprowadziła nie tylko do przeobrażeń w Polsce, ale i w tej części Europy. To dzięki temu ruchowi kraj nasz wybił się na niepodległość, zupełnie zmieniło się nasze usytuowanie międzynarodowe. Zmienione zostały struktury wewnętrzne państwa. Za bieg wydarzeń na polskiej ziemi teraz Polacy ponoszą odpowiedzialność, niezależnie od tego, jak sobie z tym radzą. Powstała w 1980 r. Solidarność wpisała się również w dzieje społeczności lokalnych. Pozytywnie należy oceniać podejmowaną troskę o zachowania pamięci, tradycji, dóbr kultury w skali małych ojczyzn. Ten wyraz troski w niczym nie staje w kolizji w opowiadaniu się za zachowaniem unitarnego charakteru państwa. Te dwie przestrzenie znakomicie uzupełniają się. Znamy dzieje narodowe, ale także miejsca swoich aktywności i aspiracji życiowych. Jeżeli chcemy trwać, utrzymywać swoją tożsamość, musimy reaktywować nośniki tradycji i idei państwa. Pamięć o wysiłku dekady lat osiemdziesiątych jest jednym z elementów owej troski. W tę przestrzeń należy wpisać podejmowany wysiłek badawczy, w tym szkicu ukazujący wysiłek ludzi związanych z ruchem Solidarności w Radzyniu Podlaskim, społeczności, która ma swój udział w procesie wybijania się Polski na niepodległość, a dzisiaj upomina się o zachowanie pełnego dziedzictwa historycznego.

Over three decades ago, social unrest had led to the establishment of the Solidarity movement. The times of its establishment, the raised hopes, the experiences of the December night and the actions taken in the following years, are still making historians discover new, still undiscovered facts. Formally, the Solidarity remained a union, but its historical significance and its influence on all spheres of life have moved beyond this definition. It not only led to transformations in Poland, but also in this part of Europe. It was due to this movement, that our country gained independence, and that our international position has changed. Also our internal structures have been revised. Therefore, the only people responsible for the course of events on the Polish lands are the Polish people themselves, regardless of how they handle this fact. Solidarity, established in 1980, has also constituted part of the history of local communities. The care over maintaining remembrance, tradition, and cultural property on the level of the local homeland is to be regarded as an asset. This manifestation of care does not clash with the advocating of a unitary state. These two areas constitute a perfect complementation of one another. We know the national history, but also the spheres of our activity and life ambitions. If we want to carry on, and sustain our identity, we need to revive the media of national tradition and concept. Remembrance of the efforts of the decade in the 1980s is one of the elements of this care. Within this area fits the effort undertaken by the researcher, who in this study depicts the achievement of those connected with Solidarity in Radzyń Podlaski. That is to say, the achievement of the community which participated in the process of Poland's gaining independence, and which today warrants the preservation of the entire historical heritage.
