The article describes the latest changes in the system of higher education of language teachers in Poland. The author concentrates on the social competences indispensable for language educators based on the National Framework of Qualifications. They are considered to be the prerequisite of success in both language teaching and pedagogy. The article also presents an example of good practice of constructing a list of social competences in the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences for philology in the State School of Higher Education in Płock.

Thesis/Objective – The article is to present the updates to the curriculum of Information and Library Studies at the Pedagogical University in Cracow based on the Bologna Process guidelines. Research method – The author used abstracts and survey results to prepare the article. Results/Conclusions – As a result of the update to the Higher Education Act (March 18, 2011) the higher education in Poland has become to be regulated by the National Framework of Qualifications (one of the outcomes of the Bologna Process). Taking into consideration students’ mobility, emphasis on life-long learning and mass higher education in Poland and adjusting higher education to the European standards, the reformers defined and introduced education results in three areas (knowledge, skills and social competences) to be used as one of the most important criteria for studies evaluation. New curricula based on those criteria have been valid since the academic year 2012/2013 and their evaluation will be possible after one full cycle of studies is finished.

Teza/cel artykułu – Artykuł ma na celu przedstawienie aktualizacji programu studiów na kierunku informacja naukowa i bibliotekoznawstwo na Uniwersytecie Pedagogicznym w Krakowie na podstawie wytycznych sformułowanych podczas Procesu Bolońskiego. Metody badań – Do opracowania tekstu wykorzystano analizę dokumentacyjną oraz wyniki badań ankietowych. Wyniki/wnioski – W wyniku nowelizacji ustawy „Prawo o szkolnictwie wyższym” z dn. 18 marca 2011 r. w szkolnictwie wyższym zaczęły obowiązywać Krajowe Ramy Kwalifikacji, będące pokłosiem Procesu Bolońskiego. Mając na uwadze mobilność studentów, nacisk na zagadnienie uczenia się przez całe życie i masowość szkolnictwa wyższego w Polsce oraz dostosowując kształcenie na poziomie wyższym do standardów europejskich, zdefiniowano i wprowadzono pojęcie efektów kształcenia w trzech obszarach (wiedza, umiejętności i kompetencje społeczne), które są jednymi z najważniejszych kryteriów oceny kierunków studiów. Nowe programy studiów, oparte na przyjętych założeniach, obowiązują od roku akad. 2012/2013. Ich ocena będzie możliwa po zakończeniu cyklu studiów.
