The present discussion sheds light on the life and works of JohannKlinger (1557−1610),  a prominent albeit obscure figure of Mitteleuropean intellectual life at the end of the sixteenth century. During his particularly fruitful stay in Olomouc in the years 1597 and 1598, where he taught at a Jesuit college, a number of his poems were published, although none under his own name. In 1598, one of his Olomouc pupils, Mikołaj Lubomirski, saw to press a collection of Klinger’s technopaegnia, which was the earliest such anthology to be published in Poland. Lubomirski’s album, partially preserved at the Jagiellonian Library in Cracow (BJ 5575), allows us to bring Klinger back from oblivion.

The paper presents research that was conducted during the term of office 2010–2014 among elected representatives of the cities of Opole and Olomouc. The aim of the research was to compare attitudes of local representatives, councillors of the given cities, toward selected reforms and particular tools devised to enhance civic participation and local democratic governance. The authors argue that attitudes and opinions of the representatives of both cities differ primarily in those areas in which they have own experience within the existing institutional setting (local referendum, participatory budgeting etc.).

The ownership marks of the books and print albums that belonged to Jan Ponętowski (c. 15401598) have already been studied extensively. Thus, this article presents hitherto unconsidered aspects of the bibliophile’s armorial marks with emphasis on written sources and the interchangeable use of the Ogończyk and Odrowąż coats of arms for his bookplates, supralibros, seals, medal with his portrait and his crosier. It investigates why Ponętowski employed the Odrowąż with the emblem of the Order of the Dragon, and by focussing on the literary sources of the relation between the dragon and salamander, which were depicted on an armorial bookplate, the article accentuates Ponętowski’s self-invention and seemingly compound heraldic usurpation. Key words: Jan Ponętowski, bookplate, supralibros, Odrowąż, Ogończyk, salamander, Hradisko, heraldry, heraldic usurpation, Order of the Dragon, Kraków, Olomouc.
