The article is a reflection around the theme of theatrical workshop as a mean of intercultural education. In my work I analyse two significant projects, the workshop organised by the Teatr Sejneński as well as the workshop of the Pracownia Kronik Sejneńskich. I refer to the work of animators from the Ośrodek ‘Pogranicze – sztuk, kultur, narodów’ based on the enterprise of the above mentioned projects. Both schemes engage children and teenagers from the region of Sejneńszczyzna, an area of rich multicultural traditions. Through the active participation, personal engagement, and the meetings with witnesses of history young people become acquainted with multicultural past of the region as well as familiarise themselves with the culture of friends living just across the border. All the information gained throughout the active participation in familiarising with the history and culture of the region form the base for the theatrical performances organised by teenagers. As a result the theatre is not only an instrument of art but also a process of intercultural education, which through the “active culture”, done for and with people, forms the ability of being a truly multicultural citizen, open to other people, comprehending the ability of dialogue, tolerance and understanding.Translated by Urszula Namiotko

Artykuł stanowi refleksję dotyczącą praktyki teatralnej jako narzędzia edukacji międzykulturowej. Odwołuję się w nim do pracy animatorów z Ośrodka „Pogranicze – sztuk, kultur, narodów” w Sejnach, analizując warsztat teatralny Teatru Sejneńskiego i Pracowni Kronik Sejneńskich. W obu projektach uczestniczą dzieci i młodzież z Sejneńszczyzny, miejsca o wielokulturowych tradycjach i sąsiedztwie. Poprzez czynny udział, osobiste zaangażowanie i spotkanie ze świadkami historii młodzi mieszkańcy Sejn poznają wielokulturową przeszłość tego miejsca oraz uczą się kultury swoich kolegów i koleżanek. Zgromadzone w ten sposób informacje stanowią następnie fundament realizowanych przez młodzież spektakli. Teatr jest zatem nie tylko narzędziem sztuki, ale procesem edukacji międzykulturowej, który poprzez „kulturę czynną”, tworzoną dla ludzi i z ludźmi, kształtuje umiejętność „bycia wielokulturowym”, postawę otwartą na drugiego, umiejętność dialogu, tolerancji, zrozumienia.
