Open Access funding is an extremely important question, however hardly mentioned in Polish literature. The Open Access model, assumed to assure free access to resources, generates system, organizational, and administrative costs, which we shall be aware of. The author discusses current methods of Open Access publications' funding, like: author, institutional, double, shared, and hybrid models, as well as governmental funding, grants, and payable membership in an OA publishing house. Particular attention is put on an author model of financing OA publications, assuming that costs of publishing texts are paid by their authors. The levels of authorship fees in most of commercial OA and hybrid journals' publishers are described.

Not only is this article an attempt of reconstruction Darnton’s views concerning books, libraries and researches but also shows its near future. The author is trying to decode a vicious circle which everyone seems to be within – librarians in academic libraries, scientists and publishers. Mentioned trap starts with reviews' high prices – while libraries must pay for delivering permanent magazines, they find themselves not having enough money to spend on monographs. In this situation, when even obliged libraries are not purchasing such releases, editors are not willing to publish them due to minimal expected income. It’s becoming clear that such state can be broken down only by changing philosophy of life – meaning moving scientists to 'open access' publishing. Scientific releases, published by editors associations, emerge thanks to public resources. However they are inaccessible for regular tax-payers. Franckly speaking the clue is that libraries are forced to buy their own people releases. This is becoming frustrating for most of scientists so that's why they decided to share their work in 'open access' manner. If such behavior was promoted and maintained by research institutions it would give an opportunity for development. The most significant achievement here is that science can be made less dependent from economy and industries what obviously brings it closer to its essentiality.

The development of Internet and quasi-monopolistic market position of publishers dictating prices and limiting access to scientific, educational and cultural publications, as well as restricted budget possibilities of public institutions responsible for popularization of scientific studies results are the key prerequisites for launching Open Access initiative. Information and knowledge have the characteristic of common good, which ought to be available for everyone. In the study, the author considers the issue of reconfiguration of copyright in such way that it was more adequate for cyber era and at the same time - not deprive authors of all the due protection.

Electronic journals are becoming more and more popular means of communication among academics. 'British Museum Studies in Ancient Egypt and Sudan' (BMSAES) is an example of a journal that uses the latest technologies. Its editors have focused on creating a credible and reliable magazine on Egyptology that enables international cooperation between scientists and provides free and current information. BMSAES's idea is also that there should not be any limitations to journal frequency and volume, but it should be possible to include multimedia. To professionally implement those ideas, the editors publish detailed article submission guidelines on their website. The essential issue is the review process - articles are peer-reviewed by the British Museum experts. Apart from Egyptology matters, editors deal also with the electronic journals topic. Until now two articles on that issue have been published. The creators of the journal contribute not only to Egyptology studies, but also spread the idea of creating new scholarly electronic journals.
