The article focuses on the designations of the Orthodox clergymen (clergy, monks and laicpersons with lowest level of consecration), which are present in a modern Polish language. Majorityof them are the Old-Church-Slavonic borrowings as: archijerej / archirej, igumen, schimnik orthe Greek borrowings as: riasoforos, hierodiakon, metropolita. Interesting is the fact of adaptationin the Polish Orthodox terminology the borrowings from the Roman catholic terminology of Latinprovenience, for example wikariusz, ordynariusz, kapelan, ect. In a parallel use we can met veryoften names from this three sources as: ipodiakon (slav.) - hypodiakon (gr.) - subdiakon (lat.),paramonarz (gr.) - ponomar (slav.), cztiec (slav.) - lektor (lat.), ect.

This article focuses on Orthodox terminology found in modern Russian-Polish general dictionaries: Wielki słownik rosyjsko-polski by A. Mirowicz, I. Dulewiczowa, I. Grek-Pabisowa, I. Martyniakowa and Wielki słownik rosyjsko-polski z kluczem polsko-rosyjskim edited by J. Wawrzyńczyk. The author shows the extent given lexicon is reflected in dictionaries, explores the ways of its translation and presents strengths and weaknesses of elaboration of entry articles. The analysis of translated equivalents also permits the identification of the main tendencies in Orthodox termino- logy in the Polish language.

Orthodox terminology in the Polish language is a topic that is rarely addressed by linguists since it concerns a lexis that remains on the periphery of lexical resources. However, since the end of the 20th century, progress has been made. The need to organize the vocabulary and establish spelling rules is increasingly visible, since several variants of the same term appear in texts relating to Orthodoxy, e.g.: ektenia – ektenija, nabiedrennik – nabiedrenik, riza – ryza, etc. Attempts to standardize the spelling of Orthodox terminology commenced with the pioneering work published in 2016: J. Kostiuczuk, J. Tofiluk, M. Ławreszuk, W. Misijuk, J. Charkiewicz, Specyfika polskiej terminologii prawosławnej. Koncepcja normatywizacji pisowni [The Specific Nature of Polish Orthodox Terminology. A Concept of Standardizing Spelling], (Białystok). In this article, some issues associated with the function of terms borrowed from Church Slavonic in the Polish language are addressed and proposals regarding their transcription are made. These proposals are a contribution to a comprehensive elaboration of the principles of the model orthography of borrowed terms from Church Slavonic accepted in a research project conducted by a team of academics entitled Słownik polskiej terminologii prawosławnej [Dictionary of Polish Orthodox Terminology] (project number 0083/NPRH5/H11/84/2017).

Terminologia prawosławna w języku polskim jest zagadnieniem rzadko poruszanym przez badaczy języka, gdyż dotyczy leksyki pozostającej na peryferiach zasobu leksykalnego. Jednakże od końca XX wieku widoczna jest jej aktywizacja. Coraz wyraźniej zauważalna jest też potrzeba uporządkowania tego słownictwa i ustalenia zasad jego pisowni, gdyż w tekstach pisanych dotyczących prawosławia bardzo często występują różne warianty tego samego terminu, np.: ektenia – ektenija, nabiedrennik – nabiedrenik, riza – ryza itp. Próby pewnej normatywizacji pisowni terminologii prawosławnej zostały już poczynione w wydanej w 2016 r. pionierskiej pracy: J. Kostiuczuk, J. Tofiluk, M. Ławreszuk, W. Misijuk, J. Charkiewicz, Specyfika polskiej terminologii prawosławnej. Koncepcja normatywizacji pisowni (Białystok). W danym artykule poruszone są niektóre problemy związane z funkcjonowaniem w języku polskim terminów zapożyczonych z języka cerkiewnosłowiańskiego oraz propozycje pewnych modyfikacji ustaleń dotyczących ich transkrypcji. Propozycje te stanowią przyczynek do całościowego opracowania zasad wzorcowej ortografii zapożyczeń cerkiewnosłowiańskich przyjętych w realizowanym przez zespół naukowców projekcie badawczym nt. Słownik polskiej terminologii prawosławnej (nr projektu 0083/ NPRH5/H11/84/2017).
