The study is dedicated to the first literary critical book by Vladmir Petrik, an edition of the selected studies and reviews 'Hladanie pritomneho casu' (Looking For the Present Time, 1970). It is an attempt to depict the characteristic elements of Petrik´s critical gesture through several stated criteria. His literary critical domain was a fiction, and not only that one with primary aesthetic ambitions. He kept understanding for social function of literature, he dealt with non fiction, too, and also with science fiction, criminal stories etc. His approach was (and also is) receptive; he is a type of critic, who is sensitive for a reader. In the horizon of his thinking he always pays attention to the process of development in literature. The studies of the history of literature are an integral part of his book. They are aimed at peripety of Slovak literature after 1945. His reflection of the fiction is dateless. He was not a type of a generational critic; he had no ambition to make 'directions' for an actual literature. His approach was always quite naive and it helped him to see things from the top and even a little farther away than his contemporaries did overwhelmed by the situation. The negative experience from the first half of the 50s determined his way of seeing things. It was a period of extremes. For several years the substance of critical function disappeared (both fine literature and critique became instruments of propaganda) as well as 'measure of things' (not only in arts). Later Vladimir Petrik applied it in fullness in his literary critical works and works on the history of literature.

In his contribution the author deals with the study of Vladimir Petrik dedicated to Minac/'s novelette 'Na rozhrani' (At the Boundary, 1954). Petrik's interpretation was published in 1981, that means during the 'normalisation' (1969-1989). It also predestined a character of his contemporary message. In spite of that the author considers the text to be very inspirational. He sees its key significance from the aspect of evaluation of Vladimir Minac's literary work. Petrik pointed out the ideological schematism of Minac's novelette, which was symptomatic for the socialist realism of the first half of the 50s. He also disclosed Minac's primary auctorial motivation. Petrik's attention is focused on the motif of coincidence here, respectively on the way, in which Minac makes it a part of composition in his fiction. The motif of coincidence is appeared also in his later works mainly in his belle letters from 60s. Here, Minac kept quite a critically reserved approach. The motif of coincidence is appeared in various contexts of Minac's work - once as a creative principle (generator of events), the other as an act of independent auctorial arbitrariness, which negates the art. The author points out the need of a genre pre-classification of Minac's work. In the 90s Peter Zajac drew attention to this point making also a reference to Petrik's study. Zajac found parallels in Minac's work with medieval genres (tradition of calendar literature). In this way Minac's novelette 'Na rozhrani' (At the Boundary, 1954) became a part of popular literature. In the 60s this fact was also pointed out by Bohus Kovac.

The term 'demonism' in the history of Slovak literature usually concerns traditional opposition between city and village (literary naturism). The study shows different dimension of that theme, which grew from 'demonism' of the world behind the 'iron curtain'. It deals with conscious appearance of new generation of writers in the second half of 50s (Anton Hykisch, Jaroslava Blazkova, Jozef Kot) and problems of prohibition (auto-censorship and censorship), introducing the level of life facts and empiric experiences through an alternative genre of fine reportage (Ladislav Mnacko, Roman Kalisky, Dominik Tatarka, Alfonz Bednar). Impulses of everyday life, little civil stories, although civilism itself did not represent an aesthetic value, were developed artistically in the 60s, mainly in the literary works by Jan Johanides and in the works of following author generation of fiction. Experimentation with artistic material opened new dimensions of reality. The study applies the terminology of Vladimir Petrik (Generation movements in literature of the second half of 50s, 1975), who used contemporary terms, names of contemporary 'demons' and who discerned reliably ideological and aesthetic criteria.
