Philosophy is not a methodologically homogeneous discipline. Philosophical styles differ not only with respect to applied methods but also with respect to the domain of research and basic assumptions. Good examples of this variety are three important styles functioning in the contemporary philosophy: analytical, hermeneutic and phenomenological one. It is easy to notice that representatives of these philosophical styles concentrate on different problems, apply different procedures and accept different assumptions. What is more, it seems that there are two kinds of philosophers: some of them delimit the range of their research with respect to previously chosen methods, others - select the best method suitable to examine previously established domain. That is why it is difficult to evaluate philosophical work objectively.
