The aim of this paper is to present Hannah Arendt’s political concept of dichotomous world. First the author of the article shows Arendt’s analysis of the world that determines human condition. In that context the fundamental thought of Arendt’s political philosophy is explained, namely the deepest structure of human activity is dichotomy in which human beings have to live: public and private sphere. Also presented is the problem of social dimension in its relation to the above-mentioned distinction.

Some data reported in the family therapeutical literature suggest the positive role of home visits, but they are rarely used in everyday practice. In the authors' family therapeutical work visits in the homes of eating disordered patients have become a routine part of the therapeutical process. The paper discusses the experiences of home visits presenting eight case vignettes. The visits were performed once in each case in the middle phase of the therapy. The observation of personal boundaries on the basis of environmental psychology and structural family therapy provided important insights for understanding the family dynamics (e. g. open or missing doors, enmeshed sleeping habits, missing father during the visit, etc.) The advantages of visits are many: therapists can gather first hand information about the family members' privacy and personal boundaries - such information is useful in planning the therapeutical interventions. At the same time the visit is a good opportunity to introduce 'in vivo' structural tasks. The visit can also serve as a tool for strengthening the psychotherapeutic relationship, while as a consequence of entering into personal places and sharing the family atmosphere the traditional doctor role changes; therapists become 'participant observers' as in cultural anthropology. The authors visits corroborated former observations that eating disorders are paradigmatic psychosomatic disorders with characteristic structural changes in the families.

The study argues that Mill’s essay The Subjection of Women is a significant contribution to his ethical and socio-political thought. For his practical philosophy, the text is indispensable since it presents a more complex understanding of human being than given in his work On Liberty. The study argues that his later essay on the subjection of women implies a view of human being as inter-subjectivity. The human being is a vulnerable subject dependent on the relations with other people and society which forms its personality and character. Furtherly, the article argues that Mill’s essay implies a more complex understanding of privacy than one can find in On Liberty. The borderline between the private and the social or public sphere is not and cannot be impervious, as the separate reading of the book On Liberty might suggest. Last but not least, the study shows that a question of emancipation and gender equality is nothing of secondary importance to Mill since the realization of the utilitarian ethics requires the transformation of human beings and alternation of characters, which is not achievable in the condition of radical inequality.

The physical environment people work in is psychologically significant to them. The work environment affects their performance and well-being both directly and indirectly. In this paper the authoresses argue that the person-environment fit theory by Proshansky, Ittelson, Rivlin (1970), the privacy concept by Altman (1975), and the place theory by Canter1977), taken together, can be used for integrating our knowledge about workplaces. Also, Proshansky's place-identity theory (1978) should be taken into account for a complete environmental psychological interpretation of people's relationship to their workplaces, since familiar, safe and controlled places assure feelings of competence and autonomy for their users. Assuming that the workplace is a primary territory, it is plausible that place attachment develops there inevitably. As a consequence of place usage, privacy regulation and other factors, the workplace becomes an essential part of the person's place identity. To understand this process thoroughly, all the processes involved in the transaction and their interconnections should be examined. In this study the authoresses consider the office as a work place in depth and outline our transactional environmental psychological approach as a theoretical background.

The habilitation lecture deals with issues of the search of the boundaries between privacy of family and the interest of the state in proper education of children. It is very topical issue, because terms such as juvenile justice or forced adoptions of children reverberate throughout Europe and even have been covered by the Resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Its adoption was the result of the disputable practice, in particular of English court. But also parents – foreigners in Switzerland, Portugal, Italy, Croatia or Germany encounter the same problems. The forceful withdrawal of children from their biological families is a contrary to the right to family life and privacy. It is also in contradiction with the positive commitment of the state to create conditions for restoration of natural relations in accordance with the family law. The substitute care, in particular adoption, should be considered only if the natural family environment of the child cannot be restored with help of the state. However, full resignation of the state to the exercise of parental duties and obligations, in particular to the result of child´s education, does not bring the desired result. Proper education of children is not only the interest of their parents, but also an important interest of society. This idea was already formulated by Aristotle stating that „the most important task of the legislator is to arrange the education of youth“. The balance between the protection of privacy, the interests of a child and the interests of society may significantly contribute to this balance. One of the basic means for achievement of the desired balance is sound legislation, for which a wide area has been opened up at the time of recodification of private law.
