The problem of the theological legitimization of the papacy is traditionally structured in the questions of its possible institution by Jesus Christ (petrinitas), of an eventual succession beginning with Peter until now (perpetuitas) and of the connection of Rome with the “Petrine office” (Romanitas). The article discusses new theological arguments regarding the role of Peter in the NT and the development of the papacy in the form of the primacy of the bishop of Rome in history and sketches some ecumenical perspectives in the context of relevant texts of theological authors and the magisterium on the development of (Catholic) doctrine.

Problematyka teologicznego uzasadnienia urzędu papieskiego obejmuje tradycyjnie trzy pytania: Czy Jezus w osobie Piotra założył urząd uniwersalnej jedności Kościoła (petrinitas)? Czy istnieje sukcesja tego urzędu począwszy od Piotra po dzień dzisiejszy (perpetuitas)? Wjaki sposób urząd Piotra wiąże się z Rzymem jako miejscem jego sprawowania (romanitas)? W artykule przedstawiono nowe koncepcje teologiczne dotyczące prymatu papieża, biorąc pod uwagę obraz Piotra w Nowym Testamencie oraz proces rozwoju urzędu papieskiego w postaci prymatu biskupa Rzymu. Wostatniej części przedłożenia nakreślono perspektywę ekumeniczną, rozpatrywaną na tle teologicznych i magisterialnych wypowiedzi na temat rozwoju dogmatu.

Die Frage nach der theologischen Begründung des Papstamtes wird traditionell aufgegliedert in die Fragen nach seiner eventuellen Einsetzung durch Jesus Christus (Petrinitas), nach einer möglichen Sukzessionskette von Petrus bis heute (Perpetuitas) und nach der Verbindung der Stadt Rom mit dem „Petrusamt“ (Romanitas). Der Artikel diskutiert neue theologische Ansätze im Blick auf das Petrusbild des NT und den Entwicklungsprozess des Papstamtes in der Gestalt des Primats des Bischofs von Rom in der Geschichte und skizziert mögliche ökumenische Perspektiven vor dem Hintergrund theologischer und lehramtlicher Überlegungen zur Dogmenentwicklung.
