Synodality is an integral part of the nature of the Church. It is, however, not so much an event or a slogan, but rather a style of life and an approach through which the Church lives out her evangelizing mission in the world. In the implementation of this mission, the Pastoral Council has a particular role to play in the parish. However, for it to truly fulfil its role in building the parish into a community of communities it must be based on the three essential pillars of the synodal Church: communion, participation, and mission. The article shows how these three dimensions emerge from the Church’s teaching, what the actual situation is and what are the essential facts that influence the Parish Pastoral Council to serve the synodal life in the parish.

The purpose of this article is to show the importance of parish pastoral councils (PPC) in the implementation of the Church’s evangelising mission, which is expressed by influencing the shape and effectiveness of parish pastoral care. Accordingly, within the paradigm of pastoral-theological analysis, the article first shows the role of PPC in the light of Church teaching. It then presents what, based on research, is the image of the PPC in Poland. The article ends with conclusions and pastoral imperatives for the PPC to become a real and fruitful structure of joint responsibility of the laity for the mission of the parish community.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest ukazanie znaczenia parafi alnych rad duszpasterskich (PRD) w realizacji ewangelizacyjnej misji Kościoła, co wyraża się poprzez oddziaływanie na kształt i skuteczność duszpasterstwa parafialnego. W związku z powyższym w ramach paradygmatu analizy pastoralnoteologicznej artykuł w pierwszej części ukazuje rolę PRD w świetle nauczania Kościoła. Następnie przedstawia, jaki na podstawie badań jest obraz PRD w Polsce. Artykuł podsumowują wnioski oraz imperatywy pastoralne, aby PRD stawały się faktyczną i owocną strukturą współodpowiedzialności laikatu za realizację misji wspólnoty parafialnej.
