Osią przewodnią artykułu jest ukazanie sytuacji polskich migrantów w Wielkiej Brytanii w obliczu regulacji związanych z brexitem. Uwaga badawcza została skupiona na społeczności polskiej, jej cechach i strukturze. Analizie poddano nowe warunki życia, w jakich znaleźli się Polacy. Funkcjonowanie w wielokulturowym państwie, zmiana sytuacji ekonomiczno-politycznej, a także ciągły proces przyswajania obcej rzeczywistości i poszukiwanie równowagi pomiędzy utrwalonymi wartościami, zwyczajami i tradycjami a odnalezieniem się w nowym domu napawa ich lękiem i niepokojem.

The main aim of the article is to present the situation of Polish migrants in the United Kingdom in the face of regulations related to Brexit. The main research is focused on the Polish community, its features and structure. The author analyzed new living conditions of Poles in Great Britain. Poles are concerned about the change in the economic and political situation. The functioning in a multicultural country, the continuous process of acquiring a foreign reality, seeking a balance between established values, customs and traditions, and finding a new home – fills them with fear and anxiety.

W artykule ukazano działalność Polaków w Wielkiej Brytanii w XX wieku, począwszy od zakończenia II wojny światowej, kiedy liczna grupa polskich uchodźców i weteranów osiadła na terenie tego kraju. W roku 1947 w celu wyłonienia reprezentacji polskiego społeczeństwa w Wielkiej Brytanii powołano Zjednoczenie Polskie. W tym samym czasie powstały również Zjednoczenie Polek (1946) i Towarzystwo Pomocy Polakom (1946). Pokazane zostało zaangażowanie brytyjskiej Polonii w kontekście historii Polski, które realizowano poprzez organizowanie protestów antykomunistycznych, prowadzenie różnego rodzaju akcji informujących o sytuacji w Polsce, organizowanie pomocy materialnej, wspieranie Polski w momencie transformacji ustrojowej, wspieranie przystąpienia Polski do Unii Europejskiej. Na przestrzeni dekad Polonia w Wielkiej Brytanii zdołała powołać liczne organizacje kombatanckie i społeczne, polskie szkoły, budować kościoły w celu zachowania polskiej kultury na obczyźnie.

The article presents the activity of Poles in Great Britain in the 20th century, beginning with the end of World War II, when a large group of Polish refugees and veterans settled in the UK. In 1947, the Federation of Poles was established to represent Polish community in Great Britain. The Association of Polish Women (1946) and the Relief Society for Poles (1946) were also formed at the same time. The article shows the involvement of the Polish community in Great Britain in the context of Polish history. This involvement included the organisation of anti-communist protests, carrying out various actions to inform people about the situation in Poland, organising material aid, supporting Poland at the time of the system transformation, and supporting Poland’s accession to the European Union. Over the decades, the Polish community in Great Britain has managed to set up numerous veterans’ and social organisations, Polish schools, it also built churches in order to preserve Polish culture abroad.

The article presents the content of Polish immigration magazines issued in Great Brit ain in the 20th century, such as „Dziennik Polski i Dziennik Żołnierza” („Polish Dailyand Solider’s Daily”), „Ocyna Poetów” („Poetry Oce”), „Orzeł Biały” („White Eagle”), „Wiadomości” („News”), as seen by the lens of artistic life chronicle, mainly plastic arts Jolanta Chwastyk-Kowalczyk229 (paintings and sculptures) of Polish artists living in exile. e news contained in these periodicals can be considered as a reliable source for research on the artistic accomplishments of the artists associated in the following groups: Academic Society of the Stefan Batory University in Vilnius, centered around Marian Bohusz-Szyszko, transformed into Group 49, London Group, Free Painters Group, Continental-British School, Scottish Group, SouthEast London Art Group and Royal Society of Painters, Etchers and Engravers. Moreover, independent artists such as: Feliks Topolski, Adam Kossowski, Stanisław Frenkiel, Antoni Wasilewski (Tony). Polish magazines published in the United Kingdom also document the activity of Association of Polish Artists in Great Britain, the organization which brings together the majority of painters, sculptors, graphic artists and architects who practice art. e articles analysed prove that Polish artists play a signicant role in establishing relations between Poles abroad and the West, through studies in Italy, England, France, winning Polish and foreign awards, realisation of orders for clients or publications from Great Britain, exhibitions in the UK and other cultural institutions of the free world. eir universal language is readable all over the world.
