Interviews gathered in this section present multilateral vision of Polish Philology, regarded from various perspectives, that concern both chances and risks that Polish Philology is facing at the moment, traditional and modern approaches as two angles shaping its identity, changes in scientific, didactic and legal organization of studies that have either already become (or will become in the nearest future) its part. Speakers also attempt to indicate the importance of closer cooperation between Polish philologists in Poland and abroad in the process of ‘reconstructing’ the faculty and discipline. Attention has also been paid to the Congress itself as the speakers attempt to answer the question whether it has reached its goals and which postulate raised during the Congress should be regarded as the most important one. In the interview with Professor Danuta Opacka-Polish Philology, PhD studies, Congress of PolonistsWalasek the issue of organizing PhD studies and challenges that those responsible for this level of education face at the moment has been discussed. Professor Włodzimierz Bolecki on the other hand discussed the changed imple-mented by the new Law of Higher Education and its consequences for Polonists.

The aim of the article is to present Polish studies at the Vilnius University – its history, present times and prospects for development. One of the basic goals of the Center for Polish Studies of the Vilnius University is, among others, educating specialists in Polish literature, culture and language in educational, cultural and state institutions in Lithuania. Thirty years of functioning of Polish studies at Vilnius University as a separate teaching and research unit within the structure of the Faculty of Philology have shown that it is an important and needed institution. The strengthened field of Polish studies at Vilnius University should exist as a permanent element of the structure of this university and as a necessary bridge in cooperation between Lithuania and Poland.

It is often complicated to understand the concept of Polish studies abroad. The author presents Polish Studies in the capital of Europe. In this Article the case of the French-speaking Free University of Brussels (ULB) is discussed. The author introduces Polish Studies as a part of Slavic Studies, then develops the limitations that this issue has on the program of teaching. The writer profiles the heterogeneity of the students: showing their differences resulting from their origins, backgrounds of knowledge, and the presence of multiculturalism. Then, the study program is explained, as well as the means and solutions facilitating the simultaneous teaching of language and literature Among the solutions are propounded new technologies, stays abroad and encounters with native speakers. In conclusion, the author outlines foreign student’s learning process in Brussels and the teaching difficulties that academic teachers may encounter in European faculties. She provides remedies found to overcome these educational issues.
