Interpretacja tekstów piosenek Victora Jary (1932- 1973), jednego z głównych twórców ruchu Nueva Canción Chilena jest zaproszeniem do refleksji nad szczególnym obliczem komunizmu latynoamerykańskiego: muzyką łączącą zaangażowanie polityczne z inspiracjami kulturą ludową. W utworach Victora Jary zaobserwować można szereg elementów doktryny marksistowskiej, jak również wpływy światopoglądu romantycznego. Specyfika doświadczenia latynoamerykańskiego wzbogaciła ponadto tę wizję o zakwestionowanie kulturowej hegemonii USA, której Jara przeciwstawiał kulturę lokalną. Znajomość dorobku Victora Jary pozwala lepiej zrozumieć nadzieje, jakie w Ameryce Łacińskiej wiązano z czerwonym sztandarem, dla wielu wciąż jeszcze symbolem walki o lepsze jutro.

The analysis of the lyrics by Víctor Jara (1932- 1973), one of the most important artists of the New Chilean Song Movement, is an invitation to reflection about the particular aspect of the Latin American communism: the music that combines political commitment with inspiration by folklore. In the songs of Víctor Jara appear numerous elements of the Marxist theory, as well as the influence of romanticism. The specific Latin American experience enriched these concepts with renunciation of cultural hegemony of the United States and with appreciation of local culture. The analysis of Víctor Jara’s heritage let us better understand the hopes that the peoples of Latin America placed in the red flag.
