Ubóstwo jest wielowymiarowym zjawiskiem społecznym występującym w każdej gospodarce na całym świecie, a jego eliminacja stała się pierwszym z Celów Zrównoważonego Rozwoju (The Sustainable Development Goals – SDGs). Celem artykułu jest analiza poziomu ubóstwa i jego zmian w krajach UE podzielonych na dwie grupy: stare i nowe gospodarki rynkowe. Przeprowadzono ją na podstawie 10 wskaźników (dostępnych w bazie danych Eurostatu), określających postępy w realizacji pierwszego SDG z wykorzystaniem statystycznej analizy opisowej ich szeregów czasowych dla okresu 2005-2016 oraz syntetycznych wektorowych miar ubóstwa obliczonych dla każdego kraju. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują na znaczne zróżnicowanie ubóstwa w analizowanych grupach krajów, a także na zmiany jego poziomu w badanym okresie.

Poverty is a multidimensional social phenomenon occurring in every economy around the world, and its elimination has become the first of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The aim of the article is to analyze the level of poverty and its changes in EU countries divided into two groups: old and new market economies. It was carried out on the basis of 10 indicators (available in the Eurostat database) specifying the progress in the implementation of the first SDG. The achievement of the goal was based on the use of analysis of descriptive statistics of their time series for the period 2005-2016 and synthetic vector measures of poverty calculated for each country. The obtained results indicate a significant differentiation of poverty in the analyzed groups of countries and changes in its level in the analyzed period.
