'Przyjaciel Ludu Lecki' (1842, 1844) is the first secular Protestant magazine in Polish – addressed to the Masurian population, issued by a group of lay people and clergy, seeking to improve the economic and moral position of the Mazurs. The article presents editorial activity of the founders (Wilhelm Menzel and Gustav Gizewiusz) as well as the magazine’s tasks. The author focuses on critical analysis of the introduction to the book which characterizes the magazine and its audience.
