The article discusses the use of ratio analysis as a part of early warning and notification systems to identify potential opportunities. The basic issues related to ratio analysis and early notification systems are introduced. In order to exemplify the problem the article presents the analysis of 19 food sector companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange basing on the Altman's classic Z-score model.

The identification of the financial condition of a company is very useful. The main purposes of the study are: (1) usage of a Polish model of discrimination analysis in the assessment of the financial condition of companies involved in the manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (division 25, PKD 2007) in Opolskie Voivodship, (2) the financial situation estimation of analysed enterprises with high bankruptcy probability with the usage of ratio analysis. The study uses data from Monitor Polski B.

The aim of this article is to analyze the assets of cooperatives. The analysis covered the period 2005-2010. A survey showed a decline in share of fixed assets for the benefit of financial assets in total assets. In subsequent years the rate of rotation of assets indicates greater productivity. In the same time the rate of profitability shows the increasing effectiveness of assets’ use.
