In commentary on B. Wojciszke and W. Baryla's (2006) paper, arguments are presented that polemicize with the assumptions of the authors' theory that an agent concentrates more on the competence domain of his or her activity and the recipient concentrates on the morality domain of the agent's action. In support of this polemic, theoretical and empirical lines of research are cited, which suggest that the agent should be interested in the moral qualities of his or her own action on account of fulfillment of social and egotistic motives. Moreover, the results of research which suggested that the content of perception may depend on culture, sex, the content of the self and the circumstances of actor's action are reviewed. Many factors can determine if the agent and the recipient concentrate on morality or competence domains, thus it was proposed to separate the considerations concerning the determinants of the content of perception and the consequences of playing the role of agent or recipient.

The article shows different views on the autonomy of translation in relation to the original text. At first, translation is regarded as a separate entity, a distinct text, functioning in a different cultural sphere (both geographically and linguistically) and often at a different age. Therefore it has a different recipient. Its autonomy is manifested in its multiplicity and recurrence, in the possibility of occurrence of new translations. The stages of creating the original and translation are also different. The autonomy of the translation depends on the attitude of the translator who has at his disposal different methods of work on the original text and different ways of interpreting it although the results of his efforts exist only in relation to the original text.

The study deals with the theme of the relationship of corporate identity and image focusing on the search and analysis of published researches and publications on the topic. The text of study presents processed opinions and practical findings of domestic and foreign authors. The author characterises corporate identity and image and their mutual relationship. Furthermore, the study describes the characteristics of elements influencing identity and image of the companies - attributes and factors affecting the image. In the final chapter the author states the findings of predominantly foreign authors who primarily dealt with this topic. The author compares opinions and findings of other authors and draws her own conclusions. The scientific methods used while writing the text were analysis, comparison, induction and deduction.

The following paper draws upon a formerly published paper of mine (Krátky, 2021) where text perception was analysed from the perspective of the recipient. As its logical continuation and completion, this paper deals with the author’s viewpoint in the process. Various related aspects are identified, observed and studied, such as the ‘author’s strategy’, the evaluation of the recipient, the intended goals, as well as other important factors that influence the final text. Special attention is paid to all such aspects of communication pragmatism that are reflected by the author’s (more or less controlled) deviations from the norm, aptly made to achieve communication goals. Within this framework, the study strives to show the different roles that the factor termed ‘expectation violation’ takes on when strategically applied by the author in the process of text creation. To support this description, numerous observations by authors such as Grice, Burgoon, Gombrich, Iser etc. are employed. By tackling the author’s viewpoint on text creation, a claim is advanced concerning the plausibility of certain conclusions, theories and, possibly, laws, by virtue of the identification and observation of selected multi-domain principles, phenomena and tendencies.

This study focuses on the concept of the recipient in terms of (a) his/her intended and real semantic-pragmatic and communicative role, (b) language means used in addressing with illocution toward the recipient and (c) verification of communicative circumstances used in connection with the recipient in the speech acts according to the illocutionary functions because we build on the fact that a speech act is the most essential element of interaction. Our default methodological basis is the understanding of the dual – linguistic and communicative-pragmatic – status of the recipient, resulting in the systemic and functional approach. We will only explore Slovak. The material database will consist of the documents from the Slovak National Corpus because these documents are a representative sample capturing the speech used in different areas of communication. Our approach will be based on the verification of theoretical findings through discursive realizations.

The main issue of this paper is to present the communication in the broader context as natural activity and the process of intervention of the meaning through interaction between the creator and the recipient. In narrower sense, the work researches the possibilities and the competences of material objects, particularly prehistoric artifacts, entities within the frame of reference and their abilities to integrate into the communication process. The article puts paradoxical approach of art theorists, aestheticians and semioticists looking for the “language” of arts in contradiction through the parallels and continuities to structure of verbal language, at the expense of disinterested research of expression means of selected arts.

The following paper is based on a broad understanding of communication (or the author-text-recipient relation) that considers as text basically anything that has been created within the framework of a cultural interaction by an author and that is perceived by a recipient. The first part of the paper introduces, explains and follows mostly cases in which the author’s violations of the recipient’s expectations have a communication value, i.e. provoke, in the recipient, a communication effect that matches the author’s intentions. In such cases, this effect results as a consequence of an (author-controlled) violation of the communication „cooperative“ principles. This, at the recipient’s end, translates into an event of expectancy violation. Each of such violations provokes an arousal in the recipient, which further motivates him/her to search for its cause. As a part of the conclusion, a commented scheme is presented which offers a spectrum of possible communication outcomes “positioned” between the predictability of each textual element and the (author’s latent) stochasticity of choice. The effort to illustrate all the explained facts results, in the paper, in a rich set of examples stemming from miscellaneous spheres of human activity – from “high (artistic) styles” to rather day-to-day activities, to pop-culture. The objective is to show that the described principles, if not valid in general, permeate at least all forms of interaction.

The study deals with one of the youngest translations of St. John Chrysostom’s Eastern liturgy into Czech. The translation analysed represents an innovative act not only within the Eastern Orthodox Church, but also outside it, and for many reasons has been accepted in different ways. The study also aims at providing space to critical voices and endeavours to discuss these views in the context of theory and practice of translation. Equally, it strives for an complete analysis of the linguistic-translatological characteristics of the translations by Marek Krupica and Jiří Stránský. One of the important factors of the concerned translation by Krupica and Stránský was an attempt at an intelligible Czech language which could be used for liturgical purposes as well. On the textual layer, there is the already mentioned intelligibility which does not contradict the observance of the textual poetics. After all, these two factors are not easy to observe, in particular regarding the translation of poetry. Marek Krupica and Jiří Stránský give preference to generally known, mostly Christian terms, such as Bohorodička [Mother of God] or svátosti [sacraments]. These terms replace the previously used borrowings, such as Bohorodice [Mother of God, an older term] or Tajiny [mysteries] which are still found e.g. in Gorazd’s Dictionary. These terms appear in the text in symbiosis with the eastern terms, such as aer [aër], diskos [paten], tropar [troparion]. Despite these innovative tendencies, the text maintains a number of poetic figures and tropes. It also does not avoid word-order inversions. Therefore, the text does not lack a certain “eastern touch” and at the same time does not seem archaic or bookish. The translation strategy thus unites all the factors mentioned here, without making a fragmented or split impression. In the given context, e.g. a translation of theological vocabulary is carried out. In this sense, the focus of this contribution is shifted from one particular translated text to general problems of translatability of certain cultural background, or the choice between free and word-for-word translation. This choice has been known in the history of translation since at least the time of Hieronymus’ Vulgata.
