Distinctness and diversity of perspectives, lack of a unified, precise strategy of action and conflicts between the governments of particular countries are factors responsible for the fact that the condition of Europe on the international arena is seen as unstable. This is directly reflected in the level of security and will affect the position of the Old Continent in the future. Those countries which have taken upon themselves the task of creating a new European order often very in their particular beliefs and preferences. On the one hand there is an assumption of codependence and integration of European countries, which is treated as a guarantee of their development and security, whereas on the other hand more and more often a process of regionalization can be noticed. The contradictoriness of unification results from a lack of one universal conception of a 'United Continent'. The author of the article seeks to answer the question which vision - unification or regionalization - is better for the development of contemporary Europe. However, does political strategy today make it at all possible to give a univocal answer?

The article deals with a discussion on two trends in modern economy, i.e. globalization and regionalization and their relationship with the economic policy. Undoubtedly, both processes require an active economic policy on the part of governments which would allow to meet the challenge connected with the above mentioned processes. Research into economic systems confirm the idea that economic policy has always played a significant role in the achievement of a particular level of advance by a given country. So far, none of the schools of economic thought has expressed doubts concerning its very existence. However, we can speak of different degrees of state interventionism and different results of the adopted policy that is to say its effectiveness in achieving development and solving economic problems of the country. Global corporations appear to be especially tough partners for the state as they take full advantage of the rules of free market economy to intensify their income.

In this article, the authors present their vision of the theoretical and empirical aspects of the party system’s nationalization and regionalization in Ukraine in 1991–2020. Electoral processes and the party system structuring in Ukraine are analysed through the prism of the nationalization theory. The main factors that affect the processes of nationalization / regionalization of the party system (socio-cultural heterogeneity, features of post-communist transit, political regime, and electoral rules) are characterized. The degree of nationalization / regionalization of the Ukrainian party system is analysed using a set of empirical indicators: the index of the effective number of parties, the Pedersen volatility index, and the nationalization index. Comparison of empirical indicators testifies to the variability of the processes of parties’ nationalization and regionalization based on the election results, and also demonstrates the ambivalence of the party system development in Ukraine and the low level of its institutionalization. A general conclusion is made about the low level of nationalization of the party system and the heterogeneity (regionality) of party preferences of the citizens of Ukraine.

The paper describes practical aspects of the compilation of regional input-output tables of the Czech Republic. Regional input-output tables (RIOTs) are not compiled by the official statistics. RIOTs represent a supplement of published indicators of regional accounts. The compilation of RIOTs is based on the combination of different data sources. The matrix of technical coefficients derived from national input-output tables represents the fundamental base of the tables. With respect to users, the results are consistent with macroeconomic aggregates and therefore they are directly suitable for economic modelling. Moreover, RIOTs comprise the examination of elementary relationships between regions and advanced structural analysis. The paper outlines how to develop the methodology of the regional input-output tables’ compilation and illustrates the possibility of regional structural analysis.

Two multidirectional vectors remain simultaneously valid within the domestic policy of European Union: the integration of European community in a single unit and the increasing regionalization of the EU countries-members. The author of the article comes to the conclusion, that the result of such multidirectional political processes is not the contradiction, but rather interaction of these two trends of domestic policy. The deepening of regionalization and partial loss of the autonomy by national governments of countries-members of EU is instrumental in the acceleration of the European community integration. The mechanisms of the parallel moved forward integration and regionalization must resolve territorial conflicts both among the 'old' members of EU (so called 'interdynastic' type of conflicts) and between the 'old' and 'new' EU members ('post-colonial' type of conflicts). In addition, the supranational authorities of the European Union can make use of the trend of regionalization as an effective mechanism of political management.
