The main thesis of study is recently formulated on theoretical ground conception of leadership of bank activity, defined as 'relationship banking' that can be realized effectively by local banks. In Poland this kind of banks are represented by cooperative banks. In this context, the aim of the study was an attempt to verify whether cooperative banks prefer functioning based on close contacts with customers, and therefore realize the concept of 'relationship banking'. The tool of this verification were opinions of bankers as well as customers of cooperative banks, i.e. farmers and small rural businessmen.
